This Week at
Christ Episcopal Church Kensington

This Sunday we consider the fifth practice of the Way of Love, "Bless."
Jesus called his disciples to give, forgive, teach, and heal in his name. We are empowered by the Spirit to bless everyone we meet, practicing generosity and compassion and proclaiming the Good News with hopeful words and selfless actions. Part of this practice is telling our stories of blessing and inviting others to the Way of Love.

Come downstairs after the 10am service to hear about the youth teams's experience of the practice of being a blessing and being blessed on their service trip to Queens, NY last summer.

Sunday School

We are following the Way of Love readings at Chapel and in our Sunday School classes so that families may talk about Sunday's scripture readings throughout the week. As we process up to Chapel, we sing: the refrain from David Haas' hymn, We Are Called:
. "We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God!" (Micah 6:8)

At 10am:
  • Chapel in the Undercroft (ages 3 through Gr. 5) When we gather, we will draw special pictures to reveal that Jesus is present when we bless others with loving care. We will hear the Gospel reading and make up actions for each need we are called to meet. Cindy Winder, Barbara Ferry, and Ann Enkiri co-lead our Chapel gathering and worship time.
Following the 10am service:
  • Godly Play (PreK and K): Andrea Dorf and our youngest students will "story with God" about Ruth. They will wonder about how Ruth, from a foreign land, cares so lovingly for her mother-in-law. They will wonder about God's love for all people and God's blessed delight in all of our differences.
  • Living the Good News(Gr. 1-3): Ann Enkiri will lead students in dramatizing today's Gospel. Students will make collages of how we can meet others' needs for clean water, good food, and basic clothing..
  • Living the Good News (Gr. 4-5): No class meeting. Students are encouraged to attend the Youth Group's presentation on this past summer's Mission Trip.

Please join the Christ Church Women (CCW) Sunday, October 21, 2018 after the 10:00 AM service for our monthly meeting and to make lovely Anglican Prayer Beads.  Pam Prindle will lead the demonstration in making the prayer beads and each person will create their own to take home to use for prayer and meditation.  Anglican Prayer Beads can deepen and transform prayer into a richer spiritual experience.

We will meet in the Library/Parlor for the prayer bead making, fellowship and enjoying brunch.  Please bring your favorite brunch item to share.  RSVP to Aime Keith at [email protected] or 202-230-6160 so we will know how many supplies are needed.  We have ample supplies for creating the prayer beads so this event is free!

We hope the new time will allow more people to attend and will provide for all who worship at the 6:30 pm Holy Eucharist to come for supper afterwards-without feeling rushed. So, please gather up your fellow parishioners, friends and family and gather together for fellowship, food, and faith-filled fun. Children are invited to bring their favorite card game or board game to play while the grown-ups visit with one another.

Dehumidifier Donation - Thank You!

We have been blessed to receive not only one, but two extra dehumidifiers for the Education Wing. The parishioners who kindly donated them wished to remain anonymous, but we are so grateful for their kind help and generosity!
