Give Your Opinion on Intersections, Win $100 Gift Card

Want to win a $100 gift card to Whole Foods? Then take our survey to help identify which intersections should be improved to enhance safety and traffic in Westchase District.

The Goodman Corporation is conducting a traffic study in the District. They've completed the first task of identifying the most congested areas as well as the locations with the highest traffic counts.

They want to hear from YOU before Friday, March 29 on which signalized intersections should be enhanced to increase safety and reduce congestion. Your input will be used to help identify and prioritize future intersection enhancement projects. At the end of a brief survey, you can enter your email address to register for a drawing for the gift card.

Sponsor or Volunteer at Corporate Challenge March 29

The 22nd Annual Westchase District Corporate Challenge, presented by Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, is quickly approaching sold out status. However, you can still get in on the fun and promotional opportunities. Major sponsorships remain available and we're looking for volunteers to assist at each of our six sporting events.

For as little as $850, you can join our growing list of major sponsors:

This field day for adults will take place Friday, March 29 at the Quillian Recreation Center and is a fundraiser for the Westchase District Community Fund. Since 1998, this event has raised more than $263,000 for area charities, including Quillian Center's summer day camps.

To check out the competition, see the most recent list of teams registered. For more details, contact Sherry Fox, 713-780-9434.

Results from The Wire's Readership Survey: Thumbs Up

Thanks to the more than 13 score (that's 267, to be exact) of our readers who responded to last month's survey on how we can improve The Wire. Some takeaway highlights:
  • 90% read once a month or more
  • 80% read all or most of it
  • 85% feel the information applies to them or is at least worth reading
Respondents reported that they like it when we give cross streets when listing addresses, so we'll do more of that. They said they'd like to read more news about public safety, so we'll start giving you more of that, too. Also, they'd like a picture reminding them of the exact borders of the District - we're working on one and will share it with you soon.

And bless the heart of the one reader who asked for more puns in The Wire! Once a-pun a time, such wordplay pun-fortunately could result in pun-employment, so it's encouraging to see such a pun-damental shift in public pun-derstanding and acceptance. Therefore, by reader request, we'll sharpen our pun-cils and attempt to better pun-ctuate our copy.

Of course, we're open to feedback at ANY time, so if you want to ride the late train, please send your comments, critiques and constructive suggestions about how we can continue to make The Wire more readable and relevant. And, as always, please forward The Wire to your friends and colleagues and encourage them to subscribe at westchasedistrict.com.

Expanded Market Hours Starting Next Week

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 10; make sure to turn your clocks forward one hour. This also means that, beginning Thursday, March 14, the market will be open each week from 3 to 7 p.m. until Thursday, November 7.

Spring Break Celebration on March 14

Next week is also spring break for many area schools and the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day on Sunday, March 17. To celebrate, we're introducing a new feature to the District's tent at the market: a caricature farm scene with two cutouts where shoppers can place their faces for fun selfies. What does it look like? Come to the market next week to find out!

Check out our new "comic foreground" debuting at the market on Thursday, March 14 as part of our spring break celebration.

The Gift Store Closing, 50% Off Sale Going On Now

Business is booming for Bob Siegrist over at the UPS Store, 11152 Westheimer (at Wilcrest). But after nearly 20 years of operating the adjoining Gift Store, he's decided to close its doors ( the UPS Store will remain open).

We're sad to say goodbye to The Gift Store - known for it's impressive selection of greeting cards, Christian-themed gifts, gourmet candy, wine gifts and candles - but we're happy to tell you that Bob has some amazing deals right now. "Everything in the store is 50 percent off," he said. "Last week I had someone spend $2,000 in here, which was really $4,000 worth of merchandise."

The sooner you buy out Bob's inventory, the sooner he can turn out the lights and relax a bit, so swing on by and stock up on cards and gifts for Easter and beyond. You can get the rest of the scoop from him at 713-781-0009.
