NGCP National Webinar Wonder Park: A Girl-Centered Discussion with Paramount Picture's Head of Animation
March 6, 2019; 12:00 PM Pacific (3:00 PM Eastern)
This webinar is a dynamic opportunity to hear about Paramount Picture's newest animated feature film, Wonder Park, in the context of supporting girls in STEM. Mireille Soria, Head of Animation for Paramount Pictures, will share unique insights, focusing on the imperative role Paramount Pictures is playing by presenting girl-positive, STEM-supportive media. Attendees will be welcome to submit REGISTER questions, as well as share their own exemplary practices in supporting girls to pursue STEM careers. Join others eager to move the needle for girls in STEM by learning more about Wonder Park and helping to promote it broadly across your community.

We welcome our newest member Andrea Lattanner. Andrea is the Out of School Time Program Manager with Microsoft Philanthropies digital skills team which works to increase access to high-quality computer science education and decrease gaps in participation through working partnerships with nonprofit organizations.
 
National Champions Board members are industry representatives, informal learning educators, gender equity experts, science and mathematics education representatives, and educational policy experts.   
 
Science Action Club 
Science Action Club Emblems
Exclusively for middle school youth in out-of-school time, Science Action Club features affordable science learning kits that foster STEM identity and inspire wonder for the natural world. Loaded with exciting activity plans, STEM supplies, and online training for staff, each kit is designed to minimize administrative burden and maximize youth engagement. NGCP Joins IF/THEN Initiative to Promote Women in STEM  
NGCP is thrilled to announced a new grant from IF/THEN, an initiative of Lyda Hill IF THEN Logo Philanthropies supporting women in STEM. We will work in partnership with Association of  Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) to host a digital asset library that features women scientists on the FabFems platform so nonprofits can download content to leverage on their own media, websites, and other publications.

Latina Sisters Identify Disparities in High School CS Classes and Take Action for Change - Kyara and Valeria Torres-Olivares were the only Latina students in their computer science classes. Instead of accepting the perceived "norm" they took matters into their own hands.

SciGirls Educator Workshop at the National MagLab
Tallahassee, FL; March 25, 2019
SciGirls Trainings integrate inquiry-based STEM instruction with a commitment to gender equity. Attendees will learn the latest research for exciting and engaging girls (and boys) in STEM, experience hands-on STEM activities, and gain access to free materials for hands-on, video-enhanced activities that put a creative twist on teaching STEM. Local educators are invited to participate and practice proven strategies for engaging girls in STEM while working out several fun STEM activities. Register.

Leap Into Science Educator Training
Keyser, WV; April 24, 2019
Developed by The Franklin Institute, this program integrates open-ended science activities with children's books. Designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. The program empowers educators to offer workshops in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs to engage underserved audiences in accessible and familiar settings. Meet Meredith Boyce. She is a Global Technology Analyst for Bank of American who focuses on accessible technology for the blind and visually impaired. When she went blind at age 14, she found the computer technology she relied upon as a sighted person was not accessible to her and so she was motivated to become an advocate. National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference on Science Education
St. Louis, MO; April 11-14, 2019
Attendees have the opportunity to learn classroom tested, educator-developed teaching strategies; hear from nationally known experts who inspire attendees to engage their students with new enthusiasm; and try new products and software. Keynote speaker is retired Astronaut Scott Kelly. New this year, NSTA will offer a livestream on April 13. Register.

SpotlightConnectory
The Connectory Spotlight highlights tips, resources, program providers, and STEAM opportunities for youth listed in The Connectory. This free online collaboration tool for program providers helps them find partners based on interests, as well as showcase STEAM opportunities for youth to families.

This month we are featuring three girl-focused opportunities with a reminder that it is time to start adding your upcoming summer camps, workshops, Maker fairs, competitions, and other time-bound STEAM events for youth. Girl Power Day (March 24, Maryland). Hands-on, maker-based activities and workshops inspired by trailblazing women in STEM throughout history, with opportunities to meet female STEM innovators from the local community. Participants will use power tools from the woodshop, programming robotic creations, engineering motorized vehicles, and more-all designed to build confidence and spark STEM interests. 
GIRL Camp Logo
Girls in Robotics Leadership (GIRL) Camp (June 10 - Aug 9, Texas). This nationwide "camp in a box" program is offered by UC Davis C-STEM Center and aims to inspire girls (entering 7-8th grades) to pursue STEM through peer mentoring and exciting robotics and coding curriculum.

Girls Exploring Engineering Summer Camp (July 15-19, Pennsylvania). Designed to provide girls (ages 15-18) the opportunity to discover the role engineering plays in medical and diagnostic devices, alternative energy, drug delivery systems, building and waste disposal systems, electronics, and manufacturing production.

PBS Learning Media: Community Classroom
Community Classroom is a film and curriculum resource series that brings to life some of today's most vital social issues by pairing film modules from award-winning documentaries with standards-based lesson plans. The Women's History Month collection focuses on women and girls around the world. The films tell powerful stories and the activities encourage students to learn and understand international struggles and take an active role in addressing concerns.

Status of Women in the States
Created by the Institute for Women's Policy Research, this report provides data that change agents can use to improve the status of women, which is integral to strengthening economic growth and prosperity for local communities and the nation as a whole.
