Spring is here so let’s get camping! We are excited about all of our upcoming activities like Spring Fling, Summer Camp, Wood Badge Training, and the Program Planning Kickoff. Read on to learn more about the great opportunities ahead for your Pack, Troop, or Crew.
Strong Units G.R.O.W. Together! - April 13th
A strong and safe Scouting program starts with planning. This conference will give you the tools you need to plan and deliver a safe, top-notch program in 2019-2020, as well as give you access to resources that can save you and your leadership team a lot of time. 

The Program Kickoff is a Unit focused, volunteer driven event where we will distribute the new 2019-2020 Council Program Planning Guide, deliver sessions on key elements to a strong and safe unit program from experienced volunteer leaders and provide answers to all your Scouting questions and concerns. Bonus: The first 400 registrants will receive a free Youth Protection Fleece Vest!

In addition, Youth Protection, Safe Scouting, and training materials will be available free of charge to all attendees. Come G.R.O.W. together and plan a great year of Scouting!

The Program Kickoff will be at the Volunteer Service Center on April 13, 2019 from 8 AM - 1 PM.
S pring Fling Cub Family Camping Weekend - April 5-7th
Get Eggcited about Science at this year's Spring Fling, Atlanta Area Council's exciting weekend adventure for Cub Scouts and their families. 

Located at Bert Adams Scout Camp, families have the option of cooking your own meals in your campsite or eat in our air-conditioned dining hall. You can also rent a camp tent, complete with your own built-in bed and power outlets! Flushing toilets and private showers are featured throughout the camp.

Silver Beaver Award - March 27th

The Silver Beaver is the highest award that a local Council can give to a volunteer Scout Leader for service to youth. Of the hundreds of awards that are presented each year, the Silver Beaver is the highest and most prestigious honor awarded to a volunteer by a local Council. As a movement whose leadership is overwhelmingly volunteer, the Boy Scouts of America recognizes the need to acknowledge those individuals who truly go above and beyond to guarantee the availability of a quality Scouting program. 
Civil Rights Heritage Hike - March 30th
Did you know Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Scout? His Troop met at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Come tour and discover even more as we hike through Atlanta’s most iconic places. Registration starts at 7:30 AM the hike will begin at 8 AM.

The hike will include site visits to:
  • The King Center
  • National Center for Civil and Human Rights
  • Ebenezer Baptist Church
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birth Home
  • The Eternal Flame

This event is open to everyone, so bring your friends and family, but you must register to attend. There are only 500 spots available so make sure to sign up fast. Patches will be available for purchase at the time of registration ($3 per patch), but will only be available while supplies last!
Wood Badge Training - March 15-17th
 
Every Scout deserves a well-trained leader. Are you that leader? Get Wood Badge trained and you will be. In doing so, you will change not only your life but also the lives of all that you touch. In 2019, the Atlanta Area Council will offer four Wood Badge courses, each with a three day weekend followed by a two day weekend. Participants are required to attend all days a specific course is being held.
