Publilius Syrus lived around 50 BC. He was a Syrian who was brought to Italy as a slave. By his wit, talent and willingness to try to better himself, he won the favour of his master, who eventually freed and educated him.
He could have said: I'm a slave. There is nothing I can do as a slave. Bettering myself can't be done. Instead, he worked at improving his lot and became famous for his writings, receiving awards from Caesar himself.
His message should inspire us all. Sitting around telling ourselves what we can't do accomplishes nothing. Believing in ourselves and the abilities we have been given while trying to improve our lot accomplishes much.
Give it a try. If you want it, go after it. Quit making excuses as to why you can't. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish.
