Citizenship Workshop A Huge Success!

On Oct 13th our Culture & Equality Committee organized Naturalize Now: Free Citizenship Workshop, hosted with Ferias Legales and Cypress Park NC and it was a success! This was the first in a series of community learning workshops #NELearn to help increase access to information and resources. Community members were able to have their questions answered by a professional attorney and learn about the resources that the Los Angeles Public Library could offer to help them through the process.

Councilmember Cedillo Presents Foro Binacional Migrante
|
|
Councilmember Cedillo is hosting a bi-national immigration forum with deputies and senators of the Congress of Mexico, the new federal government and representatives of the Ministry of the Interior to focus on improving the quality of life of Mexicans living on the both sides of the border. This effort is the follow-up to the First Binational Forum that took place in Chicago, Illinois earlier this year with representatives of many local and regional organizations and ten Mexican representatives.
The objective of the Second Binational Forum, sponsored by The Coalition of Mexican Migrants and by the Office of Councilman Gil Cedillo, is to express the feelings of Mexican immigrants regarding their needs, the immigration system in the United States, to present constructive proposals before Mexico’s new government, the elected Congress and the President-elect. It seeks to combine efforts between people and government on a common path to improve the living conditions of the vast majority of Mexicans on both sides of the border.

The Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) is pleased to announce that the City Council and Mayor have approved an additional allocation of $2 million for the Moderate Income Purchase Assistance (MIPA) Homeownership Program, which provides a “silent second” loan of up to $60,000 for down payment, closing costs, and acquisition financing.
They also announced key updates to the Low Income Purchase Assistance (LIPA)
