cbsCBS-Los Angeles Names SCA One of the Best Science Camps in the Country!

In August, CBS Los Angeles published " 5 Of The Country's Best Science Camps" and we are proud to say that first on the list was our very own Science Camps of America's Hawaii Island Science Camp for Teens.

CBS-LA writes that "Science camp offers kids the opportunity to explore and get hands-on experience with the different branches of science. Both residential and day camps build skills and knowledge ... and have the potential to ignite a passion for science in young campers." The article went on to describe the top five programs. Science Camp Executive Director Michael Richards commented, "What makes this such a great honor is the company we have on this list. All are famous for their successful programs and all have been around a lot longer than we have: California Science Center since 1998, Arcadia Institute since '75, Cub Creek from '93, and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry since 1933! It is really amazing to be included with such a group."

camp20192019 Science Camps Start July 1!
Science Camps for Teens, Grades 8-12, Hawaii Island

Land & Sea Camp:  July 1-10
Air & Space Camp: July 11-20

Science Camp for Teens is returning in 2019 with two sessions. LAND & SEA, July 1-10, gets you out onto the mountains, into the forests, along the shores, and into the waters of Hawaii Island. At AIR & SPACE you'll visit observatories, explore rocketry, astronomy, space exploration, and the atmosphere. All while meeting scientists and learning and doing hands-on science. Known as "the world's greatest outdoor laboratory," Hawaii Island is the perfect place to spend part of the summer.

You'll visit some of the most spectacular environments anywhere: the alpine slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, the native forests and fabulous waterfalls of the Hamakua coast, the wild shoreline at South Point, and the incredible black sand beach of Punalu'u.

On any day at Science Camp you might build and launch rockets, snorkel with sea turtles, build your own test equipment, hike across a volcano, star-gaze atop a volcano, design a Mars habitat, explore a cave, debate the consequences of climate change, or even get buried in black sand!

howfarHow Far Would You Go for Science?
How about seven thousand miles?!?

An island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean creates some strange perceptions. If you live on Hawai'i Island, the other side of the island is "far away." If you live on a different Hawaiian Island, the "Big Island" seems far away. If you live on the U.S. mainland, the whole State seems far away.

All that pales, though, compared to the distance on e camper traveled to get  to Science Camp this summer.

Max (pictured) came to both the Land & Sea and Air & Space camps from Moscow, Russia - a distance of 7,216 miles -  a new Science Camp record!  Thanks for coming, Max!
