Monday March 11 - Absolutely... Fred - Cambridge Community Players
Synopsis:

Fred is a faithful, honest guy who just wants to get married and settle down. Since his TWO girlfriends are almost perfect, he turns to his neurotic friend, Henry, for advice.

If only he can figure out which woman has the qualities he is looking for -- WITHOUT the women finding out about one another!
Tuesday March 12 - Strangers Among Us - Theatre Burlington
Synopsis:

Gabrielle and Michael meet by accident, fall in love, part, meet again and fall in love all over again.

The problem is, every time they meet, they forget each other’s names. They can’t help it; they suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

Complicating things are family members who have difficulty with the changes and challenges Gabrielle and Michael experience, as they become more and more entangled in the debris of memory and language.

Eventually, Gabrielle and Michael end up in a long-term care facility where they meet other people suffering from the same malady, extraordinary people who live and die with courage and hope.

In the end Michael and Gabrielle find love again and, in the process, change the lives of the people around them

Wednesday March 13 - The Beauty Queen of Leenane - Guelph Little Theatre
Synopsis:

The Beauty Queen of Leenane , written by Martin McDonagh, the Oscar winning Writer and Director of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, is a prime example of the ruthless black comedy which has become McDonagh’s trademark.

A modern classic of Irish theatre, the play, is set in the mountains of Connemara and tells the story of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early 40s, and Mag, her manipulative, aging mother.

Mag’s interference in Maureen’s first,
and potentially last, romantic relationship sets in motion a chain of events that are as tragically funny as they are horrific.

Thursday March 14 - Bare Bear Bones - Paris Peformers Theatre
Synopsis:

Paris Performers' Theatre is taking you on a unique camping experience with their second show of the 2018-2019 season with the comedy Bare Bear Bones written by Michael Grant and directed by Terri-Lynn Graham.

Ruth (Alex Graham) and Norman (Alex Riker) have become newly empty nesters and are struggling to be "just a couple" again instead of a family. With advice from a marriage counselor they head back to the place they fell in love, where Norman proposed and where they raised their young family in the summers, Bear Bones Family Campground.

After arriving late at the campground, both Ruth and Norman quickly discover that things are not the same as they were years ago. Frank (Rich Dallaway), the campground owner and his daughters Libby (Deanna Stevens) and Annie (Jessica O'Connor) confirm the couples' suspicions that times have definitely changed.

"Frank is a man who has dealt with loss and despair by shedding all the burdens life throws at him and embracing a more "stripped down" way of life," says Dallaway of his characters decision to change the way the campground is run. So do they stay? Do they leave? Campground rules clearly state "NO REFUNDS" and the old tent trailer has been parked and erected. Why not make the best of the situation? With their marriage on the rocks, can Ruth and Norman make the weekend work and rekindle the love they once had?
Director’s Notes:

By Terri-Lynn Graham

I'm a stage manager by trade. I like to be organized, tell people what to do and be in control. Yes, you may feel sorry for my husband... Directing I would say is quite different. Although I still get to tell people what to do and where to go, there is constant need for change. Change of plans, change of scenery, change of direction and flow of a piece of work. I've watched some amazing directors in my time at PPT and have learned so much from them. I am truly grateful to Greig, Linda, George and Matthew among the others I've worked with here for allowing me the privilege to watch their creative genius soar and bring a bunch of words on a page to life in a way that is truly magical.

I'm equally ecstatic to work with my ridiculously talented cast and crew who have been gentle and patient with me, offering their own advice and ideas - this show is truly a group effort.

Most importantly I want to thank my family - my parents for being Ruth and Norman when I was leaving the nest and showing me how to survive. My children for making my husband and I Ruth and Norman as they start to spread their wings, and my husband Tyler for always being on whichever side the road is on to protect me and come along for the ride while I head out on my next crazy adventure.

This show is all about life, love and finding yourself. Ruth and Norman are every parent out there. They show us how important it is to laugh together and come through the hard times together, to remember the good and the bad times and that when we shed our inhibitions, we can find a side of ourselves that we've never seen before.

Friday March 15 - Girls Like That - Theatre Sarnia
Synopsis:

Girls Like That is an explosive play staring seven young women that explores the evolution of feminist consciousness and modern female friendships in the wake of advancing technology. It examines mob mentality, sexual insecurity, double-standards, and the struggle to define oneself in a crowd.

The plot follows one class of girls, part of a prestigious school that takes only 20 students a year, guaranteeing they will remain in the same class from kindergarten to graduation.

Jumping back and forth in time, the audience sees how societal pressures and expectations creep in and affect the dynamics of this group starting at their first meeting at five-years-old. As they near graduation, a naked photo of one of them gets sent around to the entire school and the other six girls explore what this means to their group, and themselves.
Director's Notes:

By Henri Canino

I have wanted to direct this play for several years now. I first read the script on an airplane and when I finished it my husband looked over and asked why I was crying. I had no words at the time as to why this play hit home so hard. As I reflect more and more, I realize I can relate to every one of these characters in the fight for survival through the terrain of high school and beyond, especially when it comes to being a woman.

This play addresses the anxiety, disconnection, and powerlessness that many young girls and boys go through on so many levels. It may trigger different reactions from the audience depending on who is watching: It may be all too familiar for some and to others a brutally real lesson demonstrating what growing up in the modern world can look like.

The play itself is roughly based on the tragedy of Amanda Todd, a 15-year-old Canadian girl who was blackmailed into showing somebody her breasts on a webcam. The image went viral and she was subjected to horrific bullying. What happened to her was much bigger than the person who took the picture, it was the reaction of her peers and how she was torn apart. I’m interested in where this shame comes from when it comes to the naked female body and the double standard that’s out there.

One of the most poignant lines from the play is when one of the characters says to herself, “I want to say it doesn’t make sense. I want to ask about the space in between. Cos she’s a prick-tease cos she didn’t, and she’d be a slut if she did, so how does she get to the space in between?”

I hope this play can create conversations that are needed for our future generations navigating the rough waters of identity and self-worth.
