Message from Mrs. Kunze & Announcements
Congratulations to Maintenance Coordinator, Mike Oxborough, who was selected as Nease's School Related Employee of the Year. We wish Mike the best in the district competition.

Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in the number of students using vaping devices on campus. Vaping devices are considered contraband and students are not allowed to have or use them on campus. We have increased the consequences for students that we find in possession or using to a minimum of 3 days out of school suspension. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Dean's office.

A parent called to advise that Cady Studios charged her credit card recently for the same expenses she originally paid for in the fall. When she called Cady Studios they advised that they made a mistake. We wanted to share so others can check their credit card statement to see if they were accidently charged again.

All 9th grade students eligible for The Collegiate High School program through SJR must apply by the deadline of 4:00pm February 16, 2018. Paperwork should be emailed to SJR not given to anyone at Nease High School.

IN TOTAL COMMAND IN THE DEN - Girls Basketball
Nease opened District 3 - 7A tournament play last night in the “Den.” The Lady Panthers took on the Lady Commanders from Ed White in a semifinal matchup. In the opening semifinal game, St. Augustine held off Middleburg 50-47.
Playing without leading scorer and rebounder, Camille Hobby (flu) and key reserve Stephanie Manherz (ankle injury), Nease did not miss a beat. The Lady Panthers would lead 19-7 after the first period and extended the lead to 40-11 at the half.
With such a commanding lead, Nease substituted freely in the second half while the running clock was instated the remainder of the game. Three players reached double digit scoring on the night. Kiya Turner took top honors with 17 points, including 7/7 free throws. Her backcourt mate, sharp shooter Karissa Niles, finished with 14 points. Hannah Campbell would fill in admirably in the front court as she tallied 10 points, to go along with 8 rebs and 4 blocks. The front court was solidified by the efforts of Mykah Eshbaugh. She just missed out on a double-double (9 pts./15 rebounds/5 assists/3 steals and 2 blks.).
The energy level was magnified by the efforts of reserve forward Mary Thompson. Despite of her 5-7 height, she still manage to grab 8 rebounds and collect 3 steals

With the 69-24 victory, Nease (23-3) will take on St. Augustine in the District Championship game on Thursday at 7:00 pm. Keep on POUNCING!!

Girls Basketball District Finals
Nease took on St. Augustine last night in the 'Den' for the District 3 - 7A Championship. Spurred on by a rowdy and supportive Nease boys basketball team and spectators, the Lady Panthers came out pouncing from the opening tip and led 13-3 early. What looked like an obvious blowout, turned into a struggle at times, as Nease committed numerous uncharacteristic turnovers. Such deficiencies allowed St. Augustine to close the gap (15-9 ) at the close of the first period.
Nease, ranked #1 in 7A classification according to the most recent Max Preps profile, became reenergized and focused in the second quarter, out-scoring the opposition 17-4 to lead 32-13 at the half. The third quarter would prove to be more of the same, as Nease used a convincing quarter, scoring 19 points to take the sting out of the Lady Jackets with the 51-22 edge entering the final period of play. With the victory in hand, Nease only scored 2 points in the final period as the bench was cleared for the reserves and the celebration began with a hard fought 53-36 win for the District Championship.
The Lady Panthers completed the hat trick on the season. Nease (24-3), won the KSA Championship at Disney during winter break and secured the St. Johns River Athletic Conference Championship a couple of weeks ago.
Three players scored in double figures last night led by Kiya Turner's 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 dimes. Peyton Carter had a double-double with 14 pts and 12 rebounds. Camille Hobby, returning to play after missing the semifinal game with flu symptoms, scored 13 points. Nease will now wait to see who their next opponent will be next Thursday, as they await the loser of the Gainesville vs Ocala Forrest game.
