KEA and KSD recently came to an agreement regarding the non-renewal of provisional teachers who were being let go due to district financial reasons. These teachers were given provisional contracts for the 2019-2020 school year, but the compromise is that they won't necessarily be back into their current buildings. While not ideal, it is a big relief that these teachers will have a position next year.
Should You Sign Your Contract?...
Yes. Please sign your contract and return it to the district. KEA always recommends that you drop it by the district office in order to have it date stamped. Please sign and return your contract, even if you think that you might be separating from the district. This will ensure that the district does not fill your position with another candidate. You have until July 1 to be released from your contract.
Usually, the contracts are issued on May 15, and they are to be returned by May 31. The contract states that you have two weeks to return your contract to the district. Since the contracts were given out later this year, you have until June 7 to get them in.

If you, or someone you know, is retiring this year, please let KEA know by emailing Becky Babcock at [email protected]. Every year, KEA has a retirement dinner to honor the service of our teachers. We want to make sure that all our soon-to-be retirees receive an invitation.
