Solar Grows Savings at Farmer Dave's from Revision Energy

Farm Notes: Green Power

In this week's newsletter you will find a link to a video produced by Revision Energy. Revision installed the solar system on the roof of our building over a year ago. The electricity produced by the sun provides power for the refrigeration and the pumps that help to heat and cool the building. Without removing the heat of the summer as soon after harvest as possible, our food would not last so long after harvest. Our geothermal heating and cooling system is so much more environmentally sound to operate than the alternative. By powering the system with solar power we are approaching a net zero carbon foot print. This is just our small part in making the world more sustainable and green. We are considering an in depth technical tour of our solar and geothermal system for this fall. If you are interested, please notify us by email.

The rainy days in the last week are definitely lowering our electricity production. But the lower temperatures are also lowering our refrigeration needs; so the match is good. In past summers we have had drought and were irrigating as fast as possible. This year things are a little more relaxed. The rains are very welcome. But, on the flip side, we need sunny days to ensure that the plants dry off quickly. Long periods of wet plant leaves could lead to diseased crops going into the fall.

To rainy nights followed by sunny days!
