CaLL's FaLL Mock Interview Events
On December 4 th and December 6 th , Long Beach CaLL, in partnership with Wilson and Poly high schools, organized two fall mock interview events with over 100 students participating.

Mock interviews help students prepare for actual interviews for jobs and internships, where making a strong first-impression is so important. Long Beach CaLL recruited 41 industry professionals, representing a broad array of industries and careers, who provided students with constructive feedback regarding their interviewing style and how they responded to interview questions. Some students also provided a resume, and business partners were able to review it and provide suggestions for improvement.

We are grateful to all the mock interviewers for volunteering their time to provide such a meaningful experience for LBUSD students. Additional thanks go to the following companies who sent multiple employees to volunteer: Comerica Bank, Kaiser Permanente, Laserfiche, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Long Beach BLAST, Long Beach Memorial, and Swinerton. We would also like to thank Edward Steinhauser from Wilson High School and Thurman Ashley from Poly High School for helping organize events at their campuses. With the collaboration and participation of everyone involved, we were able to provide 100 students an opportunity to interact with business professionals and build on their interview skills. One student stated, “I am much more confident in approaching my next college or professional interview. I know what is expected of me, and I know what to work on.”
Economic Summit at Cabrillo High School
On December 18 th , Cabrillo High School hosted an International Economic Summit with close to 150 Cabrillo students participating. The students were organized into teams representing approximately 30 different countries. Cabrillo High School's Academy of Global Logistics (AGL) teacher, Jim Dowding, was the lead for the event.

The Economic Summit event is a world trade simulation for high school students and is modeled after the International Economic Summit Institute at Boise State University. The event is a highly effective and motivational learning experience on globalization, international economics and the free enterprise system. It is hands-on and activity-based and teaches the significance and basic concepts of international economics, globalization, and what it takes to make highly interdependent nations competitive in today’s dynamic economic environment. During the event, students created trade alliances, joined trading and banking sessions, and competed in a global issues debate.
CaLL made the event possible by recruiting 20 members of the local business community to provide professional feedback to the students. These dedicated volunteers evaluated students on their table displays and costumes, and also acted as bankers and scorekeepers for the event. Long Beach CaLL would like to thank all the volunteer judges, teachers, and student ambassadors for contributing to such a meaningful learning experience. A special shout out goes to Terri Billups with the U.S. Small Business Administration for her awesome outreach efforts to SBA members.
