We are looking for RIS parents to fill the following
Parent Teacher Council Committees:

PTC Representative:
Represent RIS at monthly PTC meetings held on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:15 am.

PTC BRAKES Committee Representative:
Promote safety awareness and address pedestrian safety issues
Create RIS banner for the annual Crossing Guard Breakfast scheduled for April 26, 2018

PTC ALLERGY Committee Representative:
Represent RIS and Attend monthly general PTC meetings held on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:15am. 
Responsible for sharing information to their PTOs, asking questions, and voting at meetings.

RIS Yearbooks on Sale NOW!
The Roosevelt Intermediate School Yearbook is now on sale! Order online at www.jostensyearbooks.com .  Enter our school name in the search box and then choose “2019 Yearbook” to get started. The cost of one yearbook is $32.

The “Yearbook Recognition Ads” are for  8 th grade parents only . There will be a separate email explaining the details of the Recognition Ads. 

Roosevelt’s yearbook will cover the highlights of the 2018-2019 school year with hundreds of photos, club activities, school sports and special events. A yearbook is always special because it captures the life and times of the school, each class and the achievements of the students. 

The Roosevelt Yearbook is being produced by the Yearbook Club under the direction of Advisers Mrs. Friedman and Mrs. Urriola. Please do not hesitate to contact either one of them with any questions or concerns:

Candygrams and Flowergrams
On Sale Week of October 22nd
Support Anne of Green Gables Cast and Crew
Students will be in the RIS cafeteria selling candygrams and flowergrams. Come and support your fellow students by purchasing a candygram or a carnation for a cast and crew member of Anne of Green Gables. These congratulatory messages will be delivered to cast and crew members after each performance.

The carnations and candy bags cost $2 for one or $3 for two. You can mix and match the candygrams and carnations.

Westfield's "Guys Night of Singing" - October 19th
Please join us for Westfield's "Guy's Night of Singing" . This fun evening will involve our male singers in grades 7-12, music faculty and other WSD staff members from across the district. As an added bonus, we are inviting all dads that want to sing with us. Click HERE to sign up. Westfield STEM Night - November 13th
STEM Night will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Edison Intermediate School Cafeteria. This fun event is free and open to all students in grades K-8, accompanied by an adult. There will be many hands-on activities including robotics, coding, food science etc.! Please see  http://bit.ly/stemnightedison  for more details.

Meet the Candidates Running for the Westfield Board of Education
When:   Wednesday, October 24, from 7:30-9:30pm

Where:   Westfield High School auditorium

Why Should I Go:   Be an educated voter. Hear from all 6 candidates running for the BOE this year. The evening will be moderated by a member of the League of Women Voters and candidates will be asked a variety of questions which will be gathered from the public prior to that evening. Questions may be submitted to  ptc@westfieldnjk12.org  by October 23. Each candidate will have 2 minutes to make a brief opening statement and 2 minutes to make a closing statement. Response time for questions will be one and one half minutes.

Who:  Six Westfield residents are seeking election to three Board of Education positions:  Dennis Cariello, Simon Cirasa, Robert Garrison, Gretchan Ohlig, Tara Oporto, and Charles Ostroff.

Don’t miss the Charles Addams Art Exhibit during  AddamsFest  at the James Ward Mansion. The exhibit will on display from October 22-30 and features a collection of 40 pieces of Addams’ work including drawings, cartoons, and photographs. It also includes a local piece of art never before seen called Dudley, a life-sized original and mischievous piece of graffiti done by Addams during his childhood that has spent nearly 100 years on the 2 nd  floor of a barn on East Dudley Avenue. More details about Charles Addams Art Exhibit can be found  HERE .
The Westfield Historical Society invites visitors to the Union County’s “ Four Centuries in a Weekend ” Open House at the Reeve House on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21 from 12:00-5 p.m.

Gently used/dry-cleaned  Halloween costumes are for sale for $5  every Thursday in October from 4-8 p.m. at the Westfield Neighborhood Council, 127 Cacciola Place. All proceeds will go to the WNC, a non-profit community center.
The JCC of Central New Jersey in Scotch Plains invites your child to open auditions for Grades 4-8 for the JCC Youth Theater Production Group’s “Annie” are October 21 from 1-4p and October 23 from 6-8p. Click HERE for additional details and to sign up.
AddamsFest is fast approaching. The town-wide celebration honoring Westfield native Charles Addams, to be held October 26-28, has a full schedule of events with something for everyone. More information can be found in the  press release  and the  schedule of events and attractions .
The Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield presents “What to Expect for Middle School Parents: Understanding Your Child’s Brain Development and Tools for Preventing Substance Use” on Monday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Edison Intermediate School. Click  HERE  for more information and to RSVP.

AddamsFest Trunks Wanted!   Decorate your car or truck and be ready to pass out candy to Trick or Treaters on Sunday, October 28 from 2:30-4:00pm.   Cars must register in advance; number of available spots is limited so sign up early. Click  HERE  for more information and to register.
The Westfield Memorial Library is offering a free Yoga class for tweens/teens ages 11-16 on Thursday evenings from October 18 through November 15. Click  HERE  for more information and to register for the class.
The Westfield Conservation Center is teaming up with the non-profit organization Second Chance Toys to collect gently used plastic toys for children in need. Donations by Union County residents can be dropped off at the WCC at 1300 Lamberts Mill Road. Please click  HERE  for details.
Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library will hold its 8 th  Annual Children and Teen Book Sale. Donation Days are October 28-30; Sale Days are October 31 through November 3. Hours of operation and other details can be found  HERE .
The Rotary Club of Westfield will hold its annual fundraiser, Small Plates for a Great Cause, on November 1 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at Lord & Taylor. Enjoy great food from area restaurants, live music featuring Anna Petrillo and Frederick Golz, a fashion show with models from the WHS Varsity Football and Varsity Cheerleaders, as well as shopping discounts from L&T. All proceeds benefit Rotary’s Project Hunger, Community Grants, and Scholarship programs.
