Dear Friends,

Kim Corbin,  Assistant Director of Employer Recruiting at  Northwestern University, was one of many volunteers who helped wrap gifts for women and children in our domestic violence shelter.

Happy 2018! As we begin a new year, we look back on another impactful year in our work  together. This year, YWCA Evanston/North Shore - powered by you - has reached over 15,000 people through a wide array of community-responsive programs and events. And as a  supporter of one of the largest and most comprehensive domestic violence service providers in the state, you helped over 700 survivors and their children obtain safety, counseling, legal advocacy, financial education, and hope for a brighter future.

Three weeks ago, our building hummed with excitement, warmth, and community as women in our domestic violence shelter and Bridges (our longer-term housing for survivors) selected presents for their children from a wonderful array of toys, clothes, and other gifts that were donated by community groups and through our "Lend a Hand" program (t hank you to YWCA Flying Fish swimmers Halley Seed and Hana Weber for their Lend a Hand leadership!).

All of these gifts are meaningful to our clients, who often arrive here with nothing more than the clothes they're wearing.  But they are more than material gifts. They are expressions of care and support from the YWCA community -- from you.

On behalf of all those we serve, thank you for all you do to make this possible, and for your commitment to our mission throughout the year.

New Year, new volunteer opportunities! Here are two:

1. We're looking for a few good men (and we know there are many of you out there!)

Jackson Katz said it last spring at our men's engagement dinner: "Violence against women is a men's issue." We agree, which is why we launched our Men's Leadership Initiative last fall. Many men wanted to be involved, so we're offering new training sessions in January and February. Please join with others to make a difference in ending violence against women. We'd love for you to participate!

2. Would you like to make a real difference to low to moderate income adults trying to improve their financial lives?

We're looking for volunteer financial coaches for YWCA Evanston/North Shore's  Advancement Project. Coaches are trained to work one-on-one with someone to help reach their financial goals.

Our goal is assist participants in creating a positive financial habit that will lead to improved confidence about managing their money and the ability to plan for their financial future.

You don't need to be a finance expert, just someone with empathy and a positive attitude!

Monthly donations make a difference

Here's another easy way you can support YWCA programs... become a Sustaining Donor! For as little as $10 a month, you can ensure that we can provide emergency shelter and longer-term housing to domestic violence survivors. You can provide swim scholarships to help kids learn to swim. You can support racial justice dialogues and equity trainings that strengthen our communities. Check Monthly Donation when you make your online donation. It's easy!
