Professional Pharmacy Fraternity

Greetings, Alumni Sisters, from your Grand Vice President for Alumni!!!

I truly want to thank you for your support and I am honored to have been elected into this position and am ready to serve YOU this biennium.

I have outlined several goals that I would like to accomplish and I will need your help to make these opportunities successful. I will be reaching out and requesting your involvement to help not only our fellow Sisters but also our Fraternity, so stay tuned on how you can contribute and participate.

As many of you are aware I am new to social media but I am excited about learning something new and supporting our social media platforms. I am more engaged now on Facebook!!!  Who would have thought as many of my fellow Sisters and friends have been trying to get me involved with social media.  I am on Facebook and will be looking for new updates from you as Alumni.  I would like to highlight things that you are doing as a chapter, awards, recognition and good news to share.  You can send me updates, questions or your requests by emailing me at [email protected]

Fall has arrived and as the Collegiates are headed towards the end of their Fall Semester, we as Alumni are gearing up for what many of us will see as one of our busiest times of the year.  It has been warm here in the Midwest which for me has been great but now I have to get ready for fall and flu season.  Don't forget to advocate for vaccinations not just during flu season but all year long.

Happy Fall!

Fraternally yours,

 Lu Shawna Lawson
Grand Vice President for Alumni

LKS 2018 Convention in Buffalo, New York & Niagara Falls

Members from Alpha Theta Chapter at the University of Buffalo and the Beta Alpha Chapter at D'Youville as the host chapters as well as the 2016-2018 Grand Council and Region Supervisors welcomed us to the city of Buffalo, New York for the 2018 LKS Convention.  The weather was just wonderful which was great as many of us were able to enjoy the warm weather and were also able to go to Niagara Falls.

Thursday morning convention started out with our Keynote Speaker, Jim Ryan, the author of Simple Happiness:  52 Ways to Lighten Up.  ( www.jimryantalks.com)

He was uplifting and even sang and played the guitar.  His talk focused on 8 Characteristics of Happy People which were:
  1. Intention (You choose to be happy.  You make the decision);
  2. Accountability (Happy people are responsible for your happiness);
  3. Know what you love to do and find time to do it (Make time for you and what you enjoy to do.);
  4. Follow your bliss ("When you follow your bliss, doors will open that you didn't even know existed." Joseph Campbell);
  5. Recasting (Recast mournful events.  Every cloud has a silver lining)
  6. Options (We have options.  Don't be afraid to take a chance.)
  7. Appreciation (He quoted the Book of Psalms from the Bible.  "This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.")
  8. Giving (We should give to others and practice compassion.)

Alumni Conference

Our Alumni Conference on Saturday morning was led by our now Grand President, Chris Grass.  We were able to reconnect with each other and also were able to welcome new alumni members to the fold and of course play BINGO.

The Social Media Committee Chairman, Christine Perry, provided an update on the LKS Social Media Committee and was able to provide the alumni members the low down on the 4 social media platforms that LKS utilizes.  These 4 social media platforms are:

Facebook (FB):
Purpose:  to give people a voice and help people connect.  Users have an account and a newsfeed.
  • LKS organization page (open to public)
    • Open to anyone and this is where our daily FB posts are done.
  • LKS group page (closed to LKS Sisters only)
    • This page is used for projects like the elections and LKS Trust.  Think of this page as driven by the members, what chapters are selling or want to share goes on this page and the Fraternity also uses this page for reminders.
Instagram (IG) (open to public)-
Purpose:  is a social networking app made for sharing photos and videos from a smartphone.  Users have an account and a newsfeed.
  • Instagram is photo driven and offers posts and IG stories.  The collegiate members are really active with Instagram.

Twitter-
Purpose:  is a means to communicate quickly, effectively and with a variety of levels of privacy.  As it became popular it became a means of sharing information directly with a person or group of people and as a means of broadcasting information.  Users have an account and a newsfeed.
  • Things that are posted to the LKS organization page are also posted here.

Convention concluded with the final banquet which included the installation of the 2018-2020 Grand Council.  We also recognized Mary Grear for her 50 Years of Membership in LKS,

Woman's Pharmacist Day- Friday, October 12, 2018

National Pharmacy Technician Day- Tuesday, October 16, 2018
