Note From Oscar:

2019 is just around the corner and as 2018 Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, I want you to know that we accomplished so much this year. Here are just a few highlights:
 
In West Sacramento we opened a new Mental Health Facility;
We expanded services for the homeless;
We removed vessels that pollute our waterways and we continue monitoring for abandoned boats;
We were successful on the June ballot with a cannabis tax;
Proposition 6 was defeated in November and road work in the county can continue to be a top priority.

Testified at the 
Delta Stewardship Council
  On Wednesday, October 24, 2018 I testified at a public hearing regarding the appeal of the Certification of Consistency for the California WaterFix. Along with Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottolli, we had three Delta Farmers testify. We were informed on December 7, 2018 that the Department of Water Resources withdrew its Certification of Consistency for the California WaterFix. Working to Protect the Delta
I will be taking the reigns as Chair of the Delta Protection Commission effective January 7, 2019, for a two year term. As part of this role I will also be serving on the Board of the Delta Stewardship Council. The Delta Stewardship Council was created in November of 2009, and its purpose was to advance the state's coequal goals for the Delta. Those goals include a more reliable statewide water supply and a healthy and protected ecosystem. Both of these goals are to be achieved in a manner that not only protects, but enhances the unique characteristics of the Delta as an evolving place.

Money for Yolo County Roads
California voters gave a resounding no vote to Proposition 6 - Remove Road Funding. Fuel tax increases and vehicle fees that were enacted in 2017 (SB1) will now stay in place. Funds from SB1 have made a huge difference in Yolo County and we can continue making road repairs a top priority. To view a list of funded projects in our County click here.

Yocha Dehe Wintun  Nation 
funds WIFI hotspots
Yolo County Library has received and is offering 40 more WIFI hotspots that local residents can borrow for one week at a time.  Hotspots will be available at branch libraries in the rural regions of the County, including Clarksburg,with limited internet access.

Circle of Service Award from the California State Association 
of Counties
On November 28, 2018, while attending the CSAC Annual Conference, I was honored to receive their Circle of Service Award for my work on homeless issues. CSAC's Annual Circle of Service Award provides recognition, in part, to county officials whose service to the county family, CSAC membership and CSAC goals are substantially above and beyond the norm. Meals on Wheels 
Helps Seniors Thrive
Do you have elderly neighbors or friends that could use a hot meal? Are you looking for a great volunteer opportunity? Meals on Wheels Yolo County (MOWYC) not only provides critical nourishment to our elderly residents, but also provides social interaction which is so important to their health. MOWYC first established itself in Yolo County in Woodland in 1972. MOWYC has grown to include 4 meal sites (West Sacramento, Davis, Woodland and Winters) and 27 meal delivery routes, many of which are in West Sacramento. West Sacramento Friends of the Library Annual Dinner Meeting featured Beth Ruyak
West Sacramento Friends of the Library (WSFOL) held their Annual Dinner Meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2018 and were pleased to feature Beth Ruyak as their dinner speaker. Ms. Ruyak has had a prolific career which has taken her to newsrooms from Minnesota to California. She currently hosts Capital Public Radio's "Insight" where she has a chance to communicate and converse with people in the region she calls home

Advisory Board Openings
District 1 has openings on the following Boards/Commissions:

Childcare & Development Planning Commission has one opening for a provider and one opening for a consumer;

Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health Advisory Board has an opening for a parent of children eligible for state health services; and

In-Home Support Services has an opening for a provider.
