Bag of Wonders Returns
A congregational favorite, the BAG OF WONDERS , will be back from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend!

We call it the Bag of Wonders because we wonder what's in the bag. For the children's sermon each week a boy or girl from the previous week will bring in one item from home and Pastor Aaron will have to make up a theologically and child appropriate children's sermon based on whatever is in the bag!

The Rules:
  • What is in the bag cannot be living or used to be living.
  • Please know if you will be coming to the same service time the following week
  • Parents may guide their children but the child has the ultimate choice as to what goes in the bag, following the rules of course.
Church Council Invitation
Calling all members of Advent!

Advent's church council invites all members 18 years of age or older to prayerfully consider being a member of church council. We have 3 positions that will be voted on at June 16th annual meeting. Church council positions are held for 2 years, with an opportunity to serve for up to 3 consecutive terms or 6 years. We meet monthly and oversee the teams, staff and finances for our church. Council members also serve as members on one or our 4 teams (Administration, Parish Life, Social Concerns and Worship and Witness). Members are encouraged but not obligated to become counters for the weekly and special offerings. We are a diverse group who have grown in fellowship and knowledge of our congregation. Please contact Holly Cronau, council president by May 31st if you are interested in being a part of this ministry of administration! holly.cronau@icloud.com

STRESSED OUT!
an Adult Bible Study
Stress may be affecting your health, even though you might not realize it. It may be to blame for that nagging headache, frequent forgetfulness, or your decreased productivity at work. Stress can affect your body, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. But when you learn to recognize common stress symptoms, you can take steps to manage them.

Join us for a time of rest and reflection from 10-10:45 am in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings as Pastor Aaron walks us through the causes of stress and what the Bible and our faith has ways to help.

Summer Bible Study
These are the topics of our Tuesday morning Bible Studies that we will discuss this summer. You can get a head start while enjoying your morning coffee. We will be able to meet in the fellowship hall for these meetings.

May 28  Dilemmas and Decisions
June 11  A New Spring Wardrobe
June 25  An Age of Grace

We will be taking the month of July off and be back on August 13. Contact Julie Page with any questions.
STEWARDSHIP
SHOULD I PLEDGE?
WHAT SHOULD I PLEDGE?

Many of us belong to numerous social, professional or not for profit organizations. It’s commonplace in those organizations to determine an annual budget and assess each of its member’s annual or monthly dues to provide for those expenses. These “dues” are in substance another annual or monthly bill to pay.

Supporting our church and its mission is different. We are called upon to be “cheerful givers” in support of Christ’s Church:

“The point is this, the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Should a cheerful giver make a written pledge to their church? Of course this is an individual choice. For many, making a pledge -writing down their intention and commitment to support the church’s mission – is an important part of the process. The pledge serves as a reminder and motivator to give cheerfully of the many blessings God has bestowed upon us.

Whether you decide to make a written pledge or not, the Bible calls upon us to give of our first fruits: “Honor the Lord from your wealth and from the first of all your produce…” Proverbs 3:9 Please pray about your commitment to the mission and ministries of Advent Lutheran Church in the coming fiscal year. May your prayerful commitment be of your first fruits.

Music Appreciation Sunday
On Sunday, June 9, help us show thanks for the Music Department on Music Appreciation Sunday. Please join us for a reception after both services.
BLAST OFF the
SUMMER at VBS!
July 22 - 26
9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Ages 3 (potty trained) - 5th grade

One small step for your kids...one giant leap for God's Kingdom!

Blast off with the first VBS to land on the moon! To Mars and Beyond will help children discover the wonders of God's universe.

At AdventELC's VBS children will become Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God's power can take them. Beginning in our Assembly area-an outpost on Mars-they'll lift off to distant planets on special missions to collect power sources. Along the way, they'll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them, too. Add to the adventure with out-of-this-world fun, learning, and timeless Bible stories that inspire children to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine!

For more information and to register go to AdventELC.org/vbs.
VBS Decorating Team
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! We need help creating decorations for Advent's VBS this summer. Our decorating committee will be meeting on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 28th. We'd love for all the help we can get! This year's theme is MARS so we will be making planets and other "spacey" things out of cardboard and various materials. It's always a lot of fun! If you have any questions, please contact Allison Ollanketo at bwollank@hotmail.com .
