A FESTIVAL OF NINE LESSONS & CAROLS
Sunday, December 23 ~ 5:00 PM
The service known as the Christmas Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a tradition followed by Anglican and other Christian churches worldwide. Many churches began conducting this service following the Anglican ceremony established at Kings College, Cambridge in 1918. In this service, the community hears and receives the story of “God with us” through nine passages of scripture along with carols and anthems of Christmas. The Parish Choir leads the musical portions of the service and readers are selected from our congregation.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
STARTING IN JANUARY
Beginning in late January of 2019, Christ Church will offer a Grief Support Group for our adult parishioners. All of us, at sometime in our lives, will live in the shadow of loss, and experience the pain, exhaustion and loneliness that accompany loss. Loss is universal and does not discriminate. Everyone grieves differently, but it is very important to know you are not alone! We plan to meet twice each month on a Tuesday afternoon. More information will be published soon – as our plans come together.

ICON WRITING RETREAT
January 14 -18 ~ St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church
Writing icons is an ancient contemplative, spiritual practice dating back to the Early Christian church. Each day begins with a Eucharist service in the Episcopal tradition and includes intentional silence, listening to Gregorian chant, noon day prayer, group reflection and teachings on the history of icons and the practice of praying with icons. This time set apart is joyful, most often transformative and challenging, open to all faiths and to those with or without art experience. The cost of the workshop is $430, which includes instruction, all materials, and lunch each day. Hours: 8:30 AM-4:00 PM each day. Class size is limited. CHRISTIAN FORMATION
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL ~ 9:30 AM
Themes of Advent — Join Fr. Michael & Rev. Katie for a series during the weeks of Advent that looks at the Advent season, the themes found in liturgy, practices, and Scripture, and its importance for our Christian life.
This class is held in the Parish Hall.
Lectionary Class —
With Advent the church begins times of special reflection. Advent is the time of expectation and return, followed by Epiphany, a time of discovery, Lent, as a time of examination, and Easter, the capstone of the year, a time of joy and celebration. Come and experience these times in the Lectionary Class. Just as Jesus invited his disciples to “come and see,” come and discover what Jesus’ life, death and resurrection mean in our own times.
This class is held in the Parlor. Led by Dick Hooper.
Sunday Adult Education Round Table —
Those first people who met Jesus had no knowledge of who he was or what his message was. He did not claim to be the Messiah because he understood that those who met him had to learn for themselves how he could and would affect their lives. The gospels were part memories of his actions and testimonies about how he transformed their lives. The second chapter (pages 27-50) of Marcus Borg’s book
Jesus: Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Radical
helps us to learn how to discern between the memories of Jesus and the testimonies about him in the gospels. Anyone is welcome to join in the discussion and hopefully learn something new about the one we know as Jesus, our Lord and Savior. For more information you may contact David Starling by text of phone at (850) 712-0977 or email
dastarling@cox.net
.
This class meets upstairs in Rm. 32 of the Christian Education Building. Led by David Starling.
Sunday Centering Prayer Group —
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us. We begin by taking a few minutes to go over the basic guidelines of the practice for anyone who is new. We then sit together in the 20-minute prayer period, followed by a brief time for sharing and intercessory prayer. All are welcome — newcomers and experienced practitioners.
This class meets in the Centering Prayer room on the administrative hallway.
The facilitator is Joan White.
SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR YOUTH ~ 9:30 ~ 2nd floor Christian Ed Bldg.
Godly Play — PreK & K, Rm. 36; 1st & 2nd Grades, Rm. 37
For our youngest worshippers, we utilize the Godly Play curriculum to help the children explore their faith through wonder and play. Each week, a Bible story is told to the children using the Godly Play method, after which children utilize their "work time" to create something in response to the story.
Feasting on the Word — 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grades, Rm. 39
In our "transition class," children begin the bridge to middle school Sunday School through the use of the Feasting on the Word curriculum. Feasting on the Word provides a solid scriptural and theological base, inviting leaders and learners with the opportunity for a deeper understanding of common Bible passages. This program utilizes a mixture of scripture readings, discussion, visual art, and multimedia resources to create an engaging educational setting for our learners.
JR. & SR. HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL ~ 9:30 ~ in the Undercroft
NURSERY ~ 7:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Infants - 2 yrs. old — Nursery, first floor of the Christian Ed Bldg.
Infants — Rm. 24, first floor of the Christian Ed. Bldg.

ALTAR FLOWER MEMORIALS
Each week our worship service is enhanced with beautiful fresh flowers. After the Sunday services, the altar flower arrangements are reworked into smaller arrangements. These arrangements are delivered to members of our parish family that are unable to attend a Sunday service. The altar flowers are a memorial, a thanksgiving for an anniversary, a birthday, a new birth, or a thanksgiving for God's blessings. The donation is listed in the weekly bulletin. Forms to participate in this ministry are available on the information table in the Parish Office.
