News from Interim Superintendent
Dr. Dennis Womack

Dear Lovejoy Community:

Five days remain in the 86th legislative session. There are three large issues left to be determined:

1)     HB 1 – The State Budget
2)     SB 2 – Property Tax Reform (which is contingent on the passage of HB 3)
3)     HB 3 – School Finance

There are technical deadlines of Friday, May 24 which is the deadline for HB 1 to be printed and distributed. All other conference committee reports must be printed and distributed prior to midnight on Saturday, May 25.

We currently find ourselves in a continued waiting mode. Conferees and leaders from both the House and Senate remain in talks regarding HB 3. There are many rumors and speculation regarding what may or may not be decided. As time passes, there is the possibility that the conferees may not come to a decision on HB 3.

At this time, our best call to action, as a community, is to thank the members of the conference committee for hearing our concerns and remind them of the importance of including transition funding for districts like Lovejoy. You may click here for sample email language and email addresses.

We thank you for your continued support. We will keep you updated as we receive information.

With respect and admiration,
Dr. Dennis Womack
LISD Interim Superintendent

WSMS Students Win Second Place in eCYBERMISSION Competition

eCYBERMISSION is a web-based science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competition for students in grades six through nine that promotes self-discovery and enables all students to recognize the real-life applications of STEM. Teams of three or four students are instructed to ask questions (for science) or define problems (for engineering), and then construct explanations (for science) or design solutions (for engineering) based on identified problems in their community. Students compete for State, Regional, and National Awards.
