Hands On Workshops!
February 9-10
April 13-14
May 11-12

With the guidance of expert artisans and master craftspeople (and using their equipment), you can create a handmade gift worthy of becoming a family heirloom. Or you can "gift" a workshop to a special person and let them enjoy expressing their creativity. Better yet, come together and celebrate the joy of making something with your own hands and imaginations. Whether your interest is painting, fiber arts or forging, Make It, Take It, Give It! has something for you. Select from workshops that last two hours to a full day to pursue your interest in woodworking, glass, drawing, sustainability or professional learning for educators. Many workshops are youth friendly, so bring your kids or grandkids, enroll them in the youth offerings or register with them and create together. Share with your friends, give as gifts to your family and treat yourself to another great experience in Berea!

Special Events
Intention Setting Workshop with Susan and Renee

January 1
11:00am-1:30pm
Body, Mind & Sol Studio
105 Jackson St.

As another year comes to an end, it is a time for reflection but also a new beginning. Each year, the new year gives a "do-over" - a fresh slate from which to create a brand-new story. Remember that intentions are not goals. Goals are future-oriented, external and have specific outcomes. Intentions, on the other hand, are in the present and are experienced every day regardless of whether the goals are achieved or not.

In this workshop, participants will experience a warm yoga flow practice, take time to reflect on 2018, share in a ritual that will let go of what is no longer beneficial, embed intentions for 2019 into a natural stone, and seal in the intentions through the practice of yoga nidra. Afterward, join for some healthy snacks, hot teas, and golden milk with friends, old and new. Cost is $35 per person.

Innovators
(Through February 28, 2019)

The Kentucky Artisan Center Presents "Innovators: Stephen Rolfe Powell & Arturo Alonzo Sandoval" to recognize two internationally known Kentucky Artists who have been innovators in their respective fields. Both Powell and Sandoval have expanded boundaries by utilizing unusual materials and pushing their mediums into new and exciting formats.

Powell, who is known for his large and intricately patterned and colorful blown glass, has recently begun to arrange and fuse colorful sliced murrini onto a large flat canvas of glass. After the color fuses, he slumps the entire piece into a concave freestanding wall of color. These new glass walls called "Zoomers" take Powell's work into the realm of architecture.

Powell's blown glass is also adorned with intricate murrini colors and patterns. His new blown glass vessels twist and turn - with necks evolved to support the visually floating forms.

Sandoval is known for weaving with a wide variety of unusual materials. His large woven works are made from recycled auto industry Mylar, recycled library 35 mm microfilm, netting, Holographic film, Pellon and numerous other industrial materials.

Sandoval's background is both Hispanic and Native American and it provides clues into his interest in the fiber arts. His mother wove countless blankets and the men on his paternal grandmother's side wove colonial Spanish textiles. Even though his family wove textiles, Sandoval's works are monumental in size. His subject matter reflects current social and cultural themes and the works in this exhibit offer his reflection on the world of technology.
