We were treated to some great plays today when our 6th grade students welcomed and performed for their grandparents.  It was obvious that a lot of hard work and preparation went into the plays. Nice job students and teachers!

As we draw closer to the end of the school year, it seems that there is something going on every day.  Please be sure to check the calendar to make sure you don't miss anything!

I hope everyone enjoys a nice Memorial Day weekend. Please take a moment to remember  the men and women who  died  while in the military service of our country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

Peace and God's blessing,

Ann E. Dougal

Sixth Grade Grandparent Event

We were very excited to welcome grandparents of sixth grade students to Saint Michael's Academy today! The sixth grade students have been working hard for almost two months now to present a variety of short plays for this event. They have been working exceptionally hard this week with rehearsals every day and finalizing costumes and props, which are mostly handmade!

We would like to send a special thanks to Mrs. Alves for helping out with props and making the art room available for students to work before and after school. A special thanks as well to Mr. Davies and Mr. Rodriguez for helping with set up, and Mr. Miller and Mr. Van Dyk for making sure the stage was available for us to practice. Lastly, a special thanks to Mrs. Brisset for providing us with our sound system and microphones each day. This project was certainly a team effort, and we appreciate all involved!

The sixth graders, along with Mrs. Bedore and myself, were very excited to present Sleeping Beauty, The Wizard of Oz, and Snow White to families and friends today.  Look for additional photos farther down in this newsletter. We hope all in attendance enjoyed the show!

We also thank Mr. DiPietro for his kind words in support of St. Michael's Academy and the wonderful education his grandson is receiving here.

 Grade 8 Class Trip

Having A Blast At High Meadows

The 8th grade students had their class trip to High Meadows this week.  Despite a little rain in the afternoon, everyone had a GREAT time!

PreK4 News

Mystic Aquarium Visits PreK-4

The students in the PreK-4 classrooms were treated to a visit from the staff of the Mystic Aquarium.  They were able to see and touch many critters from the sea including a sea urchin, lobster, and spider crab as well as see shark's teeth, seal fur, whale bones and much, much more!

 Diocesan Press Conference

Bishope Rozanski Holds Press Conference

St. Michael's Academy hosted a press conference this week with Bishop Mitchell T. Rosanski and Dr. Daniel R. Baillargeon to announce the release of a new diocesan report, Pathways to Faith.  The full report can be read at diospringfield.org.

At the conclusion of the press conference, Bishop Mitch and Dr. Baillargeon visited a kindergarten classroom!

 Kindergarten

Super Heroes Spotted in Kindergarten

Some super heroes were spotted in Mrs. Ruell's kindergarten class today. And what is the motto of a super hero?   Super Heroes are:

-not mean
-help each other
-make good choices

The super heroes also wrote stories about their favorite things and participated in super hero math with red, white and blue M&Ms!  Are you a super hero?

 What's That Noise?

Peep, Peep, Peep

If you were walking by the kindergarten classrooms, you might have heard a strange noise coming from Mrs. Ruell's room.  No...you weren't hearing things!  It was the sound of little chicks!

The students were able to hatch 12 healthy chicks as they learned about the 21 day incubation period of the chicks.

Thank you Farmer Jimmy for supplying the students with the eggs and incubator.  They will be returning to the farmer next week.

 East Forest Park Library

That Change Adds Up!

We send out a BIG thank you to all the students and families that sent in loose change for the East Forest Park Library fundraising.  Through these efforts, St. Michael's Academy was able to donate over $700 to the campaign!  And thank you to the students who helped bring all the coins to PeoplesBank today!

And Speaking Of The New Library

A reminder: The new East Forest Park Branch Library on Surrey Road is still in great need of $800,000 so please consider giving to the Promised Realized Capital Campaign, a 5-year Pledge Match where your donation will be duplicated by an equal amount, doubling your effort! There is also a wonderful opportunity to "Buy a Brick" for $100 and leave a lasting tribute to a loved one, a family member, or business.

Please consider reserving a brick paver to be engraved with the words of your choice and placed in the beautiful outdoor Reading Garden of this new City library! You may pick up an order form and envelope at church or go to  www.springfieldlibrary.org/library/about/promise . Thank you.
