MARCH 2019 E-NEWSLETTER
A Message From Our President

Happy March! This month is one of my favorite times of the year, because it is time to register for Camp I CAN! My children look forward to this program every summer, and this year will be bittersweet since it is the last time my oldest son will be able to attend. For those of you with children ages 6-17, be sure to check out this summer camp program we offer in conjunction with Toby Wells YMCA and Magdalena Ecke YMCA - I can personally attest to the joy it brings to my boys' lives!

If you haven't joined us yet for a Family Camp Weekend at YMCA Camp Marston, we still have a few spots left for our Spring Family Camp, happening the weekend of March 15th through the 17th. Located in the beautiful hills of Julian, Family Camp is a great way to get out of town for a relaxing weekend with your family in a supportive and non judgmental atmosphere. All activities, food and lodging are included, and cabins are modernized with all the necessities such as indoor plumbing, electricity and WIFI!

We are also looking forward to our 17th Annual Splash for Cash, happening Sunday, April 14th. This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it also is a blast for everyone who attends! Join us and go for a swim, or stay dry and just enjoy the delicious pancake breakfast and chili cheese dog lunch our favorite San Diego firefighters will be preparing. Get some great deals on wonderful items in our silent auction, and if you have fundraised $250 or more, you will qualify for priority registration for our very popular Surf Camp on the day of the event! All funds raised help us continue to offer our aquatics programs including Surf Camp and Pool PALS swim lesson scholarships, as well as family events like our monthly Pizza and Pool Parties, and Family Gym Night. We are thankful for everyone who comes and helps us to make this a successful event, and we hope to see you there!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MARCH 2019

The Autism Society San Diego is proud to roll out a new initiative for 2019 highlighting some of our amazing volunteers and honoring the work they do for our organization

THIS MONTH...MEET ANNETTE!

Annette Jones has served on our board for about 5 months now and we are honored to have her! Her positive energy and experience our an invaluable addition to our team. We asked Annette a few questions about her role at the AS-SD and in her community.

What's your connection to the autism community?
My career as a special education teacher and now school psychologist has brought me into a support position for families and their children. I enjoy working for and with the families.

How do you support the Autism Society San Diego?
I am a new board member, as of September, and have helped with the grant writing committee.

Editor's note - the Grant Writing committee is crucial to our success as grants fund the vast majority of our programs and activities! This is an easy and much appreciated way to help support us, so thanks Annette!

What is your favorite program the Autism Society San Diego is a part of?
I'm impressed with all of the programs! I became teary after reading the parents' comments about their child's experience during Camp I Can. It has a huge impact on the lives of children and their families.

The simplest way to get involved in supporting our community is...
Over the years, parents have shared that they appreciate kindness during frustrating situations. Grace and patience from the community are always appreciated.

Interested in making a difference yourself? Join our wonderful Board of Directors to be a part of all we do in San Diego County!
Contact us with inquiries or join us at our next Board Meeting on March 28th at 6:30pm.
