President's message

Dear GHI Members and Subscribers to GHI Matters,

Again, I hope you will find interesting information in this issue and I also like to mention that you may use GHI Matters also as a way of communicating important messages relevant to the goal and methods of GHI to the readers.

The year 2018 has been an important year for GHI, involving much energy from active members. These are not only our Directors, Working Group leaders and Ambassadors, but also many other GHI members, who have given presentations at many places on all continents; have been writing and editing chapters for GHI books - already published or in preparation; have been active in Working Groups and participating in meetings with authorities. The next year, 2019 promises even more demanding, including the 1st GHI Congress!

Because this is the last GHI Matters of 2018, on behalf of the entire Board I express appreciation to all those active members who spent free time on the goals of GHI. Without them there would be no progress.

I wish every reader, wherever on the globe, a pleasant time and a prosperous 2019.

Kind regards,

Huub Lelieveld, 18 December 2018.

The "Early Bird" registration period is over, we are now in the Regular registration phase and because we did not manage to send out a reminder in time, the Regular registration will be prolonged till the end of this year. To use it, go to  GHI Congress Registration.

The Congress is taking shape as can be seen from the list of speakers and the preliminary programme on the website, www.ghiworldcongress.org. Please submit your abstract before 15 January 2019 here.

Other important conferences, see below!

Translations of GHI Share Sheet 1 and other documents

Share Sheet 1, focussing of chemical food safety, can be downloaded from the GHI Library website.
The document has been translated in many languages and may be used for information and education purposes. Feel free to send the Share Sheet in the language of choice to anyone you feel should read it. The translations have been made in the knowledge that at least half of the world population does not understand English.

There are many more documents that may be downloaded, in particular the Consensus document on food irradiation may be important in your country. If it is, feel free to translate the Press Release

GHI Ambassadors

As you can see on the Ambassadors webpage GHI has ambassadors in most, but not yet all, countries with more than half a million inhabitants. It is important to have them everywhere and therefore if you know motivated scientists who are interested in GHI Ambassadorship, please direct them to the webpage and in particular to the description of the position (visit here and see here).  If seriously interested, they may write a message to Alina Gostin, Director Ambassador Programme ([email protected])

The GHI-endorsed 10th International Congress "Flour-Bread '19 takes place from 11 -14 June 2019, ( http://www.ptfos.unios.hr/flour-bread/ ).  The Congress is organized by the Faculty of Food Technology Osijek (PTFOS), Croatian Food Agency (HAH), International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC), ISEKI Food Association (IFA) and Global Harmonization Initiative (GHI). The Congress celebrates its 10th international jubilee. Congress Topics are Cereals and Climate Changes, Food Safety, Product Quality, Processing Technologies, Health and Waste Management. You are invited to contribute to the programme of the Congress and to participate in social events that will provide an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and experience with your colleagues, and discuss possibilities for networking and collaboration.
