A note from Stewardship & Finance

Deuteronomy has much to say about tithing and giving to the local church. Here are three verses to ponder: " But remember the Lord your God for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth." ( Deut 8:18 ) "Give generously and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and everything you put your hand to." ( Deut 15:10 ) "Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you." ( Deut 16:17 ) Please remember to return your completed pledge card on Sunday, November 4 .

Greetings to all,

This week, I wanted to update you on the status of our new small group ministry.

For the past 6 weeks, 3 new small groups have formed, and we've received glowing reports of new bonds being formed and new things learned about each other and their faith. We are also thrilled to report that all 3 plan to start back up after our brief break here in the last half of the month.

Small groups will begin again in the first week of November. So, if you or someone you know is interested in joining a small group, please look for bright YELLOW signs around the church next week telling you the when's and where's so you can get involved. And if none of these days or times work for your schedule, please let either me or Steph Martin know and we'll work on connecting you with other small-group-minded folks who might have your same need.

Thank for your support and participation as we continue what we hope will be a Northmont staple for years to come.

Children gather in the sanctuary and then head to our classrooms after Time With the Children. Kids' worship bags are in the narthex stairwell.

FALL PIE AUCTION Do you like to eat pie? Make sure to join us Sunday, October Do you like to eat pie? Make sure to join us this Sunday after worship for the Youth Pie Auction Fundraiser! All money will go toward their summer mission trip to do hurricane relief work in North Carolina. Come sample pies and bid to take one home! If you'd like to help by baking a pie, see Steph Martin for more information.

GREETING CARD SALE

Throughout October our youth are selling boxes of 30 greeting cards for $30 a box. For each box sold our youth get $15 toward their mission trip funds. You can choose between four different boxes of handmade cards! Make sure to see the youth at the table in the narthex after worship or contact Steph Martin if you'd like to buy cards.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a system of caring ministry we have here at Northmont. In it, Stephen Ministers, specially trained congregation members, provide Christian care to people who are experiencing a life challenge. News from your Mission Ministry Team

Northside Common Ministries Food Drive

The food drive for this fall runs from October 7-21 . There is a request for personal hygiene items and household cleaning supplies. These items cannot be purchased with food stamps and clients will go without them because of more pressing needs if cash is low. There is also a request for hearty soups and any non-perishable food item is always appreciated.

Monetary contributions are also welcome because they enable the food pantry to purchase needed items from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank at a reduced cost. Thank you for your support

Operation Christmas Child "Shoebox Project" Final turn in November 11

The mission ministry team is staring this drive now in order to give everyone more time to purchase items. Shoeboxes and suggestions of needed items will be passed out October 14. More information will be coming.

Honduras Hope Mission OTC Drug Drive

Jesus healed many people with a lot of ailments, followed by the apostles and now us. I get to witness the scenes similar to Jesus's when we drive into a poor village and see the line of villagers normally more than 200 deep, waiting in line since the night before. So, if you are in Target looking at your shopping list and notice a 25% off sign for pain pills or vitamins in front of you, perhaps Jesus is reminding you that Ken Yoest is going to Honduras the first week of February and needs medicines to serve some of the poorest people on this earth. If you don't have the following list to buy from, then trust that Jesus just guided you to a certain product. I am often asked, "What do you really need the most from the list?" The donations come from several other churches in the North Hills so that it is hard to predict. We will let Jesus control that as well.

Needed: Tylenol (all ages, adult, children, infant), Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Tums, Calcium, Lomotil, Imodium, Vitamins (adult and children), Prenatal vitamins (really need these), Iron, Antibiotic ointment, Anti-fungal cream/lotion, Hydro-cortisone cream, canes, first aid supplies such as sterile dressings, bandaids, ace bandages, tape, eyeglasses and dental items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss.

The collection box will be in the coat rack area across from the church offices. Collection will start Sunday October 21 and end November 11 . You may donate as well to: Honduras Hope Mission, Inc.; P.O. Box 463; Mars, PA 16046

PW Harvest Dinner November 10

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, homemade pies - Northmont's HARVEST DINNER will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 between the hours of 4:30 and 6:30pm. Invite your friends and neighbors! Take-outs are available. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $4.00 for children age 4-12, and children under 3 years of age are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will be sold in the narthex before and after worship Sunday, October 28 and November 4. Proceeds benefit the missions and ministries of Northmont's Presbyterian Women.

Scouts Annual Christmas Greens Sale October 28

Scout Troop 335 will hold its annual Christmas Greens sale, taking orders before and after worship, next Sunday, October 28. Orders will be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 25.

Hurricane Florence and Typhoon Mangkhut

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is offering immediate aid to the communities impacted by Hurricane Michael. This joins responses already underway for those impacted by Hurricane Florence, Typhoon Mangkhut, and other international disasters that have suffered a lack of media coverage.

Hurricane Michael struck the Florida panhandle with devastating winds and storm surge, causing loss of life. The storm then cut a path across the southeast, moving through the same areas impacted by Hurricane Florence just a few weeks ago.

PDA is deploying teams to affected presbyteries. Emergency aid, assistance in the development of a short-term response plan, as well as a ministry of presence will be the priorities of the initial response.

Meanwhile, areas impacted by Mangkhut and Florence have received aid and support through the gifts of Presbyterians like you. In humility, with God and your continued support, we will continue to help draw hope out of the chaos, together.

Will you stand in the "GAP" (Give/Act/Pray) to help the survivors of these terrible storms?

GIVE: Hurricanes Michael and Florence and Typhoon Mangkhut have caused extensive damage and loss of life. Some of you have already given generously in previous weeks. While the needs can feel overwhelming, continued prayer and giving will ensure that the whole church is able to respond. Gifts to DR000194 support our response to hurricanes and typhoons.
