Around UC
As we enter into the winter season, we reflect back on the busy fall season we enjoyed with our Morris Harvey College and University of Charleston alumni family! From alumni gatherings scattered throughout the region to annual Homecoming festivities, we have had a wonderful time meeting our alumni from over the years. Enjoy  this video  recapping fall in review here at the University of Charleston and read on to catch up on all things alumni!
Bringing UC to You!

This fall, we brought UC to YOU, holding alumni gatherings in Cincinnati, New York City, Washington D.C., and Pittsburgh. These events were great opportunities to meet fellow alums, learn more about what's going on at the University, and meet our president, Dr. Marty Roth. Enjoy a few pictures from the events below!

Reunion in a Box

Have you recently had an informal reunion in your area? Let us know! We love to see pictures of Golden Eagles gathering all over, and we are always happy to share "reunion news." Haven't had a gathering but want to? We can help! If you are planning an unofficial reunion in your area, contact the alumni office beforehand for a "Reunion in a Box." For parties of six or more alumni, we will send you some UC "swag" for your event and help communicate your event with other alumni in your area!

December Commencement

On December 9, we celebrated the 2018 graduating class. Nearly 100 Golden Eagles graduated from their undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, earning degrees in their respective fields and joining the ranks of their fellow alumni. The University welcomed Senator Joe Manchin as the guest speaker for the ceremony; Senator Manchin was also given an honorary Doctor of Law degree from UC. We are proud of our newest graduating class and eager to see all they accomplish in the future! Congrats, class of 2018!

Homecoming 2018

Our annual Homecoming & Family Weekend did not disappoint! Alumni from across the country traveled to Charleston to join in on the festivities. The weekend included events on and off campus, various UC sporting events, our annual Homecoming tailgate, and more. The class of 1968 celebrated their 50th reunion and were honored on the football field prior to the game. Enjoy a few pictures from the weekend below - we hope to see you at Homecoming 2019!

Alumni Spotlight

Alumna of the Year - Dr. Bren Stevens

Every year, one standout alum is nominated for the title of "Alum of the Year." This year's recipient of the award was none other than our very own, Dr. Bren Stevens.  Bren graduated from the University of Charleston in 1980. For nineteen years, she led an impressive career as the head volleyball coach. In 2012, Bren was promoted to the position of Director of Athletics and has taken the athletics program to new heights ever since. Under her leadership, the number of student athletes on campus has increased from 311 in 2012 to 585 this year. Bren has also increased athletic participation by adding new athletic teams over the last six years. Thirty-eight different teams or individuals have advanced to the NCAA tournament since Bren has been leading the athletic department, including the first national championship in UC history with the men's soccer team in 2017. She also serves in a variety of leadership positions within the NCAA, NACDA, and Women Leaders in College Sports. Bren tirelessly works to maintain academic excellence, competitive success, program integrity and external outreach across the entire department.

We are so proud of Bren and lucky to have her leading our athletics department here at UC. Congratulations, Bren!

Historic Year for Men's Cross Country

Our five year old cross country team showed just how far they have come in such a short time this season. The men claimed the 2018 Mountain East Conference and NCAA Atlantic Region titles, with coach Nick Bias being named the NCAA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. The team advanced to the NCAA finals where they finished in the Top 25, a first for the program. Additionally, UC junior Jack Mastandrea made history by becoming the first athlete from UC and the Mountain East Conference to be named an All-American for his performance at the NCAA finals in Pittsburgh. The team made a name for itself on a national level and proved that they are just getting started.
