Cinema Arts Centre Hosts Long Island Community Foundation Event, Addressing Critical Issues for Long Islanders
On Tuesday January 23rd, the Cinema Arts Centre was proud to host the Long Island Community Foundation for a very special private screening and discussion program, addressing urgent issues on Long Island.
Attended by many of the generous donors who, through the Long Island Community Foundation, support the nonprofits that make Long Island a better place to live, the event featured two documentaries created by Long Island filmmakers.

Heroin/Opioid Substance Abuse Here on Long Island, a Town of Brookhaven documentary, was the opening film, followed by UNDOCUMENTED: The Life Story of Dr. Harold Fernandez, with director Patricia Shih in person.
These films were accessible to the deaf, blind, and hard of hearing thanks to funding to the CAC from the Joseph, Violet, Virginia & Muriel Pless Family Fund at the Long Island Community Foundation. We were thrilled to have Muriel Pless in attendance at the event.

“We are grateful for our partnership with CAC and for hosting this inspiring and interesting evening for our donors,” said David Okorn, executive director at LICF. “The two outstanding Long Island documentaries gave our donors an insider’s view on devastating issues afflicting our region.”

The Long Island Community Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization that connects donors with the full spectrum of charitable organizations within our community. In 1978, The New York Community Trust, one of the nation's oldest and largest community foundations, established a Long Island division to provide Nassau and Suffolk County residents with an economical alternative to a private foundation or a commercial gift fund.

In addition to giving donors the opportunity to act on their values by connecting them with funding opportunities, the Long Island Community Foundation also funds area nonprofits through a competitive grant process. It was through this process that the Long Island Community Foundation helped make possible the CAC's purchase of digital projection equipment in 2012, allowing the continuation of our daily independent film programming.

Life of the Cinema Campaign Succeeds!
Thanks to everyone who supported the 2017 Vic Skolnick Life of the Cinema Campaign, which closed on January 31, 2018!

Many of our members chose to give an additional gift to our annual fund, providing such an important piece of our revenue pie, and helping to ensure our ability to continue to deliver excellent independent film programs and cultural events to our community. We are so grateful to our members, and member/donors for continuing to stand with the Cinema Arts Centre, now in our 45th year!
SEAT REPLACEMENT UPDATE:

During last year's annual campaign we reserved a portion of funds raised for seat replacement. Funds raised through sales of seat plaques have also been reserved for seat replacement. However, the timeline of this project has changed. Originally scheduled for fall, and then winter, we are now waiting for a third party issue to be resolved before we can set a new date for replacing our seats in cinemas one and two. All funds contributed specifically for seat replacement are being held aside for this project, which we are committed to seeing through. We will continue to provide updates as the timeline becomes more clear.

THANK YOU.
