Season's Greetings!

i-Ready MOY
We have spent the last two weeks testing our K-5 students in order to determine their Reading and Mathematics mid-year proficiency and mastery based on the i-Ready MOY (Middle of the Year) assessments. The testing window is closing this week and all make-up testing will be scheduled for any students who missed their original testing dates.

Tigers are Challenged to "Go Green" 
At Tangelo Park Elementary, we are encouraging students to Go Green! Going Green is our motto to promote On Grade Level Achievement of all students. Students who are demonstrating On Grade Level Mastery or have some improvement from the other performance color bands (Red - Needs Much Improvement, Yellow - Some Improvement Needed, Green - On Grade Level) will participate in the Principal's Celebration on Friday, January 11, 2019.
 
Florida's Winter Wonderand - "Hats On To The Holidays" (Dec. 18)
Please join us Tuesday, December 18th for family activities, refreshments, and performances at our Florida's Winter Wonderland - "Hats On To The Holidays!" in the cafeteria from 5:30-7:00 p.m. There is no school Friday, December 21, 2018. It is a student holiday, but a regular teacher workday as they finalize student grades for the quarter.

Winter Packets (Dec. 19) and January Principal's Party
Winter packets for all K-5 students will go home Wednesday, December 19, 2018 and those students who return their packets to their teacher on Monday, January 7, 2019 and score 80% or higher will attend the Principal's Party on Friday, January 11, 2019. In addition, a different incentive will be presented to students to score less than 80% and who show good effort.  
 
ROAR Parent Night (Jan. 11)
Our second ROAR Parent Night will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019.  We will begin with a Meet & Greet at 5:30 p.m. There will be special guest speakers: Mr. Freddie Figgers and Mrs. Natlie Figgers from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Mr. Freddie Figgers is an owner of a telecommunications company and cellular phone manufacturer and Mrs. Natlie Figgers is a lawyer. Mr. and Mrs. Figgers will be spending a full day at Tangelo Park Elementary motivating and speaking to our students in grades 3-5 about their childhood experiences and recent success stories.

We want to celebrate our last week before Winter Break by having our students dress for the holidays with the following themes: 
 
* Monday: Holiday T-Shirts
* Tuesday: Crazy Socks
* Wednesday: Pajamas
* Thursday: Ugly Sweater/Ugly T-Shirt

All OCPS Campuses Closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 4
Parents and students, all OCPS schools are closed during Monday, December 24, 2018 - Friday, January 4, 2019 for Winter Break.
 
We are looking forward to having all of our parents in attendance at Tuesday's Florida's Winter Wonderland - "Hats On To The Holidays!"

Meet Mrs. Dendy, 3rd Grade  


Q: How long have you been a teacher?  How long at TPES?  
A: This is my third year teaching and all 3 years have been at OCPS. This is my first year at Tangelo Park Elementary.

Q: Where did you graduate from college?
A: I graduated from Michigan State University.
 
Q: What do you enjoy most about being an educator?
A: I love to teach Math.

Q: What book is your favorite book?
A: My favorite book is Dark Angel by J.R. Ward. Really the whole series is one my favorite books. I love series romance novels.

Q: Hobbies, interests?
A: I like to bake and I am a hardcore TV binge watcher.


Special Holiday Event   
Magical Winter Program: Tuesday, December 18th  
 
 

Please join us for our Florida's Winter Wonderland - "Hats On To the Holidays!" on Tuesday, December 18th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There will be fun family activities, performances, light refreshments and more.  We will also be collecting canned goods during the event.

Thank you for bringing any canned goods to Tuesday evening's special event to help some of our local Tangelo Park families in need here at the holidays. Your kindness and anything you might share is greatly appreciated!

Japanese Art (Academics)

Fourth grade classes learned about Japanese culture through art. They studied many disciplines like painting, printing, cartooning, and origami.
