Hello Viking Fans,

The fall athletic and activities season began for many in early August. Over the past nine weeks we've hosted six different invitational tournaments, dozens of Woodland Conference games, our annual Hall of Fame Induction, and enjoyed a great 2018 Homecoming. A big thank you is necessary to all of the people who make these events possible.  So many of our coaches and athletes spend their summer training and prepping for the season. Booster clubs and parent volunteers running concessions, planning senior/parent nights, hosting tournaments, and countless other duties are all part of what make these events both memorable and successful

It's been an amazing fall full of memorable moments. This week marks the start of post-season play for many teams and the end of the season for some others. Below you will find countless highlights of the great accomplishments by our students and some important announcements as we head into our winter season.

Consider joining us this weekend for a ton of WIAA Tournament events. * Please keep in mind: per WIAA rules, all tournament events require purchase of a ticket. Unfortunately, any student passes, conference passes, or school pass will not work for any tournament games. Please arrive early to any event you're attending as parking will be at a premium. Thank you for supporting West athletics and activities, and as always...Go Vikings!

New Berlin West Vikings
Historic Season for Boys Soccer

The New Berlin West boys soccer team is enjoying one of their best years in school history led by a stellar group of seniors. Currently the Vikings hold a 14-3-3 record and are ranked #1 in the Division 3 WSCA Coach Poll. This is the first time in school history that New Berlin West has earned the top ranking in the state. The year was also highlighted by winning their second straight Dillett Memorial Invitational and a slew of scoring records from senior Corbin Neutgens .

While the team has enjoyed a great season, they understand rankings mean nothing when it comes to the WIAA tournament. The boys begin tournament play in the toughest sectional soccer bracket in the state with five different top ten teams. Come cheer on the Vikings this Saturday at 1:00 PM as they look to bring home a Regional Championship  and advance to WIAA Sectional competition.

Soccer is ranked #1 in Division 3 for the first time in school history heading into the WIAA Tournament

Girls Tennis Wraps Up Season with State Birth

The Lady Viking Tennis team wrapped up their season last week after a successful fall campaign. There were plenty of new faces on the court this fall under first-year head coach, Becky Perreault. Coach Perreault has been serving as the assistant boys coach for the past two years and took over the girls team from longtime head coach Chris Viste. The Lady Vikings spent a lot of time honing their skills with summer camps and open hitting in preparation for the season. Throughout the year many girls improved their scores and have the benefit of returning 15+ upperclassmen next year. The season was highlighted with junior Ali Schaper qualifying for the WIAA State Meet in Madison.

Cross Country

The New Berlin West Boys and Girls Cross Country team is gearing up for the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Meet this Saturday in Milwaukee. Highlights of the season included a third place finish at the Shorewood Invitational by our girls team of Brynn Flanders, Molly Thomas, Jordyn Nyenhuis, Gaby Holbrook, and Rose Riedmaier. Last week at the Woodland Conference Grady Davis, Brynn Flanders, and Tommy Martin all received all-conference recognition for their seasons. As they head into their final meet of the season, senior Tommy Martin will look to return to the state meet and hopefully bring company with him this time around. Best of luck Vikings!

Football heads into WIAA Playoffs

Congratulations to our Viking Football Team on a great 2018 campaign. The Vikings have qualified for their third straight playoff appearance and will host their first playoff home game since 2006. The girls swept all three games, playing some of their best volleyball of the season. On Thursday evening (10/18) The Lady Vikings will travel to #3 seed Whitnall High School in their 2nd round matchup starting at 7:00 PM. The winner of this game will earn the right to play Saturday in the WIAA Regional Championship. WestTAP Season Stands the Test of Time

The turn of last century's historical accomplishments by great authors and playwrights are the theme this year with the West Theatre Arts Program planned season. Performed at West Performing Arts Center, the premier auditorium in New Berlin, the season features actors, musicians and artists from New Berlin West Middle and High School, with elementary-aged students from New Berlin in A Christmas Carol to play the younger roles.  Each of the four shows have an early 1900s flavor, with stories that have withstood the test of time.
A Christmas Carol by Charles A. Dicken's has been a favorite feature around the world since first published in 1844.  But no one does it better than the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, an annual tradition for over 40 years.  Keeping the production fresh, the Rep features different adaptations by playwrights. Such is the case with WestTAP's production, written for the Milwaukee Repertory by Romulus Linney circa 1996.  With all the favorite characters from Dicken's classic Victorian-era script, A Christmas Carol plays December 7-8, 2018 just in time for the holiday season.  Tickets are general seating and on sale now!
Disney's Newsies, A Broadway Musical began as a 1999 film and was later adapted to the stage in 2011. Loosely based on the New York City Newsboys' Strike of 1899 , the musical's driving rhythm is akin to a newspaper printing press: forceful with songs, dancing and strong characters like 17-year-old Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, leader of the newsies, and Kathryn Pulitzer, young daughter of Joseph Pulitzer who, like her father, has a driven passion to build a legacy.  Even Governor Teddy Roosevelt is in this cast. Tickets for this show will be reserved and sales begin in November with an on-line ticket system that affords the patron to choose their own seats. Newly released to high schools last March, WestTAP premiers this Broadway favorite February 8-10, 2019.
Our Town by Thornton Wilder is the 1938 classic. Our Town tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. Lessons in life, family and love bring heartwarming emotions as the story takes its audience through the life of the characters.  Opening April 12-14, 2019, general seating tickets will be available in February.
And while Winnie-the-Pooh isn't set in the turn of the century, the show is based on the series of books published in 1926 about a cub from WWI who lived in the zoo until his death in 1934.  A.A. Milne and his son, Christopher Robin, spent countless hours with their favorite zoo animal, Winnie. And now, A Children's Playhouse will bring the story to your family on stage.  Dramatized by Kristin Sergel, the show plays March 22-24, 2019. General Seating tickets will be available in February.
Tickets can be purchased on-line, at the administrative office of New Berlin West School, and the WestPAC box office one hour prior to curtain. See West Performing Arts Center for more information.

Strength & Conditioning

The New Berlin West Strength and Conditioning staff, which includes licensed PE staff along with West athletic coaches and trainers, continue to make efforts to improve our programing. Not only does staying in shape improve lifelong health, but year-long training improves athletic performance, injury prevention, and team culture. We encourage all student-athletes to enroll in a BFS course and/or join us starting in November for off-season conditioning in preparation for your upcoming athletic season. Workouts will run after-school until 4:15 PM with a wide range of exercises including speed, agility, flexibility, and strength. If you have questions please see Mr. Chossek, Mr. Garland, Coach Taylor, or Coach Grossman.
