We're wishing everyone in the Green Opportunities community a happy and healthy holiday season! Thank you so much for supporting our job training programs this year. With your backing, we prepared hundreds of job seekers for sustainable employment opportunities and advanced our goal of building a stronger, more inclusive local workforce and community. This work is possible because of the incredible contributions of time, money, and talent made by countless individuals, including students, volunteers, partners, employers, and donors. We're looking forward to continuing to work with you in 2019!

GO's work...by the numbers
In recognition of both our 10th anniversary and the end of 2018, we're happy to share a new infographic that showcases the cumulative job training work Green Opportunities has done since our founding, as well as some of the highlights from this calendar year.
Founded in 2008, GO has graduated over 600 youth and adults from our training programs in our first 10 years, helped job seekers find work with 300+ local employers, and raised over $2.4 million in revenue for our training programs via social enterprise.

In recognition of our organization's 10th anniversary, we sat down with Green Opportunities co-founders, Dan Leroy and DeWayne Barton, to talk about what inspired them to start GO, and what the early days here were like. In our latest StoryShare video, Dan and DeWayne discuss why they created an organization that worked at the intersection of environment, economy, and social justice issues in order to tackle local issues, as well as the important role that hope plays in transforming our student's lives.
We're grateful to the awesome team at Amplified Media for producing our StoryShare video series.

"Spotlight On: Green Opportunities"
The Laurel of Asheville showcased GO's work, past and present, in their October issue. "Over the years, the industry has changed, the landscape has changed and our trainings have changed, but the heart of Green Opportunities has remained the same. We meet people where they are and help them move forward." - J Hackett, Executive Director. Read the full article here.
Hanan Shabazz participated in the first cycle of the GO Kitchen Ready training program back in 2012, then worked as a teaching chef for the program for many years.
These days, she's part of the all-star culinary team that recently opened
Benne on Eagle
, John Fleer's new soul food restaurant on The Block. Several other GO graduates are working in the kitchen as well. The restaurant was profiled last month in the Citizen-Times. Read the article here.
