MESSAGE FROM FR. MICHAEL
Dear Parish Family,

Now that we have several weeks behind us after having reopened, I wanted to give you an update.

It has been such a joy seeing so many of you come back to Mass, practicing your faith and devotion, your love of God. We are averaging around 60 people at each Sunday English Mass, 90 at each Spanish Mass, and about 20 at daily Mass. There is still room for more in the main church, and we also have the social hall set up for social-distanced overflow should the need arise.

Greeters have been making sure that the doors are open for you and, even if you can't see their smiling faces under their masks, welcoming you with great joy. The ushers have been doing an amazing job of helping people to their pews and maintaining social distance. A fantastic crew of selfless volunteers have been ensuring that the whole church is sanitized after every celebration.

Masks are still to be worn at all times in the church, and we will continue with the 6-foot social distancing requirement for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We have hand sanitizing stations available for all when you enter.

We are still asking everyone to please continue to receive Holy Communion reverently in the hand.

Baskets are available in the narthex if you'd like to make a tithe or contribution to the church. THANK YOU for those of you who have continued giving so generously! I know what a sacrifice this can be, We are grateful.

As a reminder, if you are sick, coughing, sneezing, have a fever, or even just don't feel well, or you could be particularly vulnerable to the disease, PLEASE PARTICIPATE FROM HOME. This is very important, and very serious. We deeply value having you at Mass, but for the safety and health of others, please err on the side of caution. Do not worry, we will not stop the livestream of the Mass. Remember that while the  obligation  to attend Sunday Mass has been temporarily dispensed, the Commandment to keep holy the Lord's Day has not. So join on the livestream and participate in all the prayers from home, make an act of spiritual communion, read the Sunday Scriptures, pray a family or couples or individual Rosary.

With that being said, if you are healthy and able, and not in one of the vulnerable categories, let's be sure not to fall into spiritual laziness. If we  can  make it to Mass, then we  should  make it to Mass. Please truly examine your conscience and your motives and ensure that the old "noon-day devil" of acedia, or spiritual apathy, doesn't set in, always keeping in mind that the Lord desires us, calls to us, and is eager to flood our souls with the graces we need most!

It's different, it's strange, but the Lord is constant, and He is Good.. This can be a time of great conversion and growth in holiness if we let it! That's usually how God works...raising up Saints in the times that are most uncomfortable and inconvenient. So let's trudge through this with our eyes and hearts fixed on Christ, surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.

Thank you for being such a great parish. Keep the Faith!

Looking forward to seeing you, I remain,

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Michael Silloway,  Pastor

Stewardship Scripture Reflection
Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Jesus said to them,‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves’.” (Matthew 14:16)

This is what Jesus said right before he fed the five thousand men. How often do we really place our trust in Jesus when the situation looks grim? With Jesus, no gift is too small or insignificant when offered with love. But, we have to do our part. We should trust that Jesus will provide all that we need. We need to believe that Jesus has a better plan in store for us.

FAITH FORMATION
Registration for our K-12 Faith Formation programs is now available on line at COKAS.org.

Due to the need to maintain social distancing, we will provide virtual family oriented classes and youth group sessions from September through December, 2020 with the hope of transitioning to in-person gatherings in January, 2021. As Archdiocesan guidelines are updated, we will review our policies and update them at the discretion of our Pastor. As always, the safety, wellbeing and spiritual needs of your family remains paramount as we make decisions that affect our Faith Formation programs.

Visit the Faith Formation tab on our website for more information and to register your students. Please contact Anne Bared-Hill if you have questions about K-5 Faith Formation (cokas.dre@gmail.com) or Laura Brennan for questions regarding youth ministry (cokas.dym@gmail.com).

As a side note, please know that we are unable to meet face-to-face, we will be deeply dependent of our text notifications through flocknote. If you are going to be a part of one of our faith formation programs, please visit those ministries on our website to sign up for their flocknote notifications immediately.
Please click below to see our Parish Calendar for schedule of events.
Prayer of Petition: In our journey as a faith-filled community during our Year of Service, may we all heed Jesus’ call to love one another. May we show our love by sacrificial acts of service in our families, parish and communities.   Let us pray to the Lord…

Atlanta Diocesan Tribunal Advocate

We have an Advocate! Last summer, as part of a parish and diocesan need, COKAS requested volunteers to serve as advocates to those seeking annulments or marriage permissions within the Atlanta diocese. Jody Haas accepted this challenge and I am pleased to announce that after completing eight months of training on marriage and canon law, she was commissioned in May by Archbishop Hartmeyer as an Atlanta Diocesan Tribunal Advocate. As an advocate she is available to provide counsel to the faithful and defend their interests in the marriage nullity process.

If you or anyone you know has any issues concerning matters of permission or dispensations concerning marriage, you may contact Jody for more information or for assistance with preparation of petitions to the tribunal.

She can be reached at jhaas@atladvocate.com or through the parish office at 706-453-7292.
Hope During Covid-19

The Word on Fire - Bishop Robert Barron

The coronavirus outbreak has left countless people all over the world asking themselves: Why is God allowing this to happen? How do we respond? and Where can we find hope?
Saint Martha – One of Jesus’ Closest Friends

Just before Jesus’ final entry into Jerusalem, his close friends, Martha, her sister, Mary, and brother, Lazarus, entertained Jesus at their home in Bethany (John 12:1-8). Martha “served,” while Mary anointed his feet. It is in the simple statement, “Martha served,” that we recognize Martha for her witness to stewardship. She isn’t a prolific evangelist, she doesn’t work miracles. She simply serves Jesus.

Jesus may have been a frequent visitor to Martha’s home and perhaps this is one of the reasons the Gospel of John reveals to us that “Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus” (11:5). This unique statement in the gospel informs us of the special relationship Jesus had with Martha and her siblings. And, as another one of Jesus’ visits to Martha’s home affirms, Martha continues to be concerned that Jesus be served. Like any good steward, hospitality was very important to Martha (Luke 10:38-42).

What is most revealing about Martha is on the occasion of the death of Lazarus (John 11:1-44). Martha takes an active role, going out to meet Jesus to let him know what happened to her brother while Mary stays at home. Jesus assures her that Lazarus will be raised from dead.

With courage and conviction, Martha confesses her deep faith in Jesus Christ: “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.” And then Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” When he asked Martha if she believed this, she replied: “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world” (John 11:24-27).

The feast of St. Martha, a witness to service who confessed her faith in Jesus, is July 29. She is the patron saint of homemakers, cooks, domestic workers, waiters and waitresses, and hotel employees.

Martha isn’t a prolific evangelist, she doesn’t work miracles.
She simply serves Jesus.
