Flu Shot Clinic for Students

Working with the Penn Delco School District, Health Hero PA is excited to kick off its 2017 school located influenza vaccination clinics. Flu is among the top vaccine preventable illnesses. Per the CDC, 25 to 50 million cases are reported each year in the United States. They lead to hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and tens of thousands of deaths! Schools are virus incubators, and school children are efficient virus spreaders - they have the highest rates of infection.

The Health Hero program is a voluntary flu vaccination at school program that prevents the disease and reduces student absenteeism. The program has been safely immunizing children for years. This school year, an estimated half a million-school children will be immunized via this program.

To help you keep your child well Health Hero will be providing injectable flu vaccinations on  Tuesday, October 30 th at the Penn-Delco School District. Please consider having your child vaccinated, help them become a Health Hero, and help us stop the spread of the flu in your school and homes.
  • Clinics are safe: a doctor oversees the program and only licensed professionals give the immunizations.
  • Clinics have no out of pocket costs: They immunize every healthy child that returns a signed consent form from their parent or guardian.
To take part in the Health Hero Program, please completely fill out, sign, and return the  consent form to the school. Once your student is vaccinated they will receive immunization paperwork for your records.

Elementary Students Promote Peace

Elementary students participated in the international art and literacy project, Pinwheels for Peace. Students wrote their thoughts about what peace means to them and decorated the pinwheels to visually express their feelings. The pinwheels were then placed around the outside of the schools for all to enjoy.

District Adopts New Elementary Reading Program

Fountas & Pinnell Classroom ™ ( FPC ) is a cohesive, multi-text approach to literacy instruction for all students in grades K-5. The System is designed to support whole-group, small-group and independent learning opportunities including: interactive read-aloud, reading mini-lessons, shared reading, phonics/spelling/word study lessons, guided reading, book clubs, and independent reading collections.   Fountas & Pinnell Classroom ™ is rich with authentic texts, lessons or conferring cards, mini lessons and professional tools & learning for a systematic, transformative approach to literacy instruction.

Penn-Delco will have a three-year roll-out with the system. The focus this year will be on guided reading in grades K-3. The new Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Guided Reading is a powerful and authentic engagement utilizing authentic, original leveled books to build each student's ability to process increasingly challenging texts with fluency and comprehension.  Through guided reading students learn how to engage in every facet of the reading process and apply that literacy power to all instructional contexts. This powerful and innovative new system meets students where they are and leads them forward with intention and precision. The books are designed to spark engagement and wonder.

Years 2 and 3 of the roll-out will add the components for shared reading, interactive read-aloud, reading mini-lessons and phonics/spelling/word work lessons.  At Penn-Delco we recognize every child's right to grow up literate as a member of a dynamic learning community.  This new and exciting system will provide Penn-Delco with a balanced literacy program to meet the needs of all of our learners

Penn-Delco Continues to Make Student Safety a Priority

The Penn-Delco School District Board of School Directors has made a substantial investment in school security by committing to a district-wide camera system upgrade. The upgrade began last year, and when complete, all Penn-Delco buildings will have state-of-the-art IP video cameras installed both inside and outside to provide optimum security coverage. Over 200 cameras across the district will be in place allowing administrators to easily access various video feeds of our schools in LIVE time from a computer or mobile device.
Additionally, the district will be introducing a Visitor Management System over the coming weeks. Raptor is a visitor registration system that is used to protect students, faculty, and visitors at school by ensuring that the school has a clear understanding of which adults are visiting and approved to enter the schools. It enhances school security by reading visitor driver's licenses, comparing information to a sex offender database, alerting administrators if a match is found, then (assuming no match was made) printing a visitor badge, which includes a photo. Final preparations for the use of Raptor are in the works. We look forward to the use of Raptor in the near future.
