Haunted House
event, each year for two weekends the house and grounds of Naumkeag transition into a scary Halloween event. We need volunteers to costume up as creatures, beasts, scary ghouls, ghosts and others to help during the four nights of our Haunted House event. The dates to volunteer are: Friday, October 19th and Saturday, October 20th, Friday October 25th and Saturday, October 26th. Arrive at 4:00 pm, enjoy a sandwich dinner on us, we can assist you to create your costume or alter ego and be on your way home by 10:00 pm.

At Naumkeag we will be planting over 40,000  daffodil bulbs beginning the weeks of October 15th, October 22nd and ending the week of October 29th.  Planting begins each day at 10:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm, special weekend volunteer dates can be arranged. We will supply the tools needed to plant the bulbs, prepare the ground, limited if any serious digging is needed.

Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in MCLA Gallery 51

FREE and open to the public

Steven Dunn will be in residence at the College on Oct. 22 and 23 as this fall's visiting creative writer. During his residency on campus, Dunn will visit writing classes, meet with students, and present a public reading of his work.

Dunn is the author of the novels "Potted Meat" and "water & power."  Set in a decaying town in southern West Virginia, "Potted Meat" follows a young boy into adolescence as he struggles with abusive parents, poverty, alcohol addiction, and racial tensions. In this first novel, Dunn explores the fear, power, and vulnerability of storytelling, and in doing so, investigates the peculiar tensions of the body: How we seek to escape or remain embodied during repeated trauma.
