Important information regarding increased density in the Homestead area

*** Revised Residential Infill Proposal Released ***

The new Residential Infill Code that allows for increased density in residential areas is moving closer to final approval by the Portland Sustainable Commission and City Council. This code language will allow for significant infill and increased density (including multifamily and triplex development) by applying an "a" overlay zone to many residential properties in the Homestead area. It is expected to be final by the Fall.

Homestead and many other neighborhoods have testified and suggested changes to this code but it would appear these have not been considered. The new code does not take into consideration infrastructure to support this new development, increased traffic and parking concerns, and many other livability issues. More information about the project and a map of the proposed overlay areas is available at the following link.

The Homestead Neighborhood Association Board and many other SW neighborhoods have commented and have considerable concerns about this new code.  SW Neighborhoods Coalition (SWNI) has prepared a letter to Morgan Tracy, Infill Project Manager.
