Member Services
Society Welcomes new Executive Assistant
The Lifesaving Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Lee Galusha as the Executive Assistant for the Alberta and Northwest Territories Branch.
Lee started with the Society on October 1st, 2018 and will work with the Executive Director, and staff team to achieve the strategic directions of the Society for a Canada Free from Drowning and Water Related Injury. She will be filling a position within Branch operations, working with fellow staff members to meet growing demand for training programs. In addition, she will be assisting with program administration, training coordination and safety services.
Lee comes to the Society from a 25 year background in aquatics. She started her career with the City of Edmonton as a Swim Instructor teaching from the preschool level to the advance levels including the Lifesaving Society's programs (Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross). Lee also was a Bronze Examiner which led to receiving the President's Award from HRH the Duke of Kent in 1996. Throughout her career Lee moved on to become a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Supervisor and eventually a Facility Programmer. Lee brings to the Lifesaving Society an understanding and knowledge of the programs that we offer.
"I've been in aquatics from a very young age and really enjoyed teaching the values of safety in and around the water. After leaving the city 4 years ago, I still find myself prepared for any water situation whenever we travel (once a lifeguard always a lifeguard). I'm excited to step into the role as Executive Assistant with the Lifesaving Society and to get back to aquatic roots!"
Lee can be reached during business hours at the Lifesaving Society's office at (780) 415-1755 or by e-mail at [email protected].
Potential Canada Post Strike
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has given strike notice to Canada Post that workers could walk off the job as early as next Monday, October 22. Locations of the potential job action have not yet been determined.
On September 10, Canada Post workers voted to be able to strike if their union cannot reach a new contract with the Crown Corporation. In the event of a labour disruption, mail and parcels sent through Canada Post will not be delivered. Any mail or parcels within the system will be secured and delivered when operations resume.
The Lifesaving Society is monitoring this situation closely and has a strategy to address business continuity in the event of a postal strike which will allow us to process test sheet data, provide proof of certifications, and ship materials and merchandise. The Society will utilize alternative shippers to get products out. While we will try to minimize the impact on our customers, the cost of shipping products may be impacted.
If a labour disruption at Canada Post occurs we will activate our contingency plan. Our priority will be to minimize the impact of this potential event on our members and delivery partners.
