I can not think of a better way to start the day than with six of Escondido's amazing students!

Today was the kick off breakfast for the 2018-2019 Rising Star Student of the Month recognitions. The Rising Stars are seniors whom we honor for demonstrating character, integrity, love of learning, community and school involvement. They are students who make a difference in their home, school and community with passion and sincerity.

We all know that ambitious high school students are involved in a record number of activities as part of their resume building for their college applications.

But what about their heart, compassion and integrity? How is that measured?

One student noted that he did not have a long list of achievements.
But all would agree that what he has achieved is far beyond what belonging to any organization or activity can provide. He has real life experience caring for his family, especially his Great Grandmother. While other students his age are seeing the latest movie, or playing the hottest video game, he was with his Great Grandmother, building a flower box to brighten her day and helping with her daily needs.

Or the student who is orphaned and is successfully living on her own with a full time job, and STILL academically successful! When you meet her, the first thing you will notice is her captivating smile and warm heart.

Life experience can not be taught in a class room. Compassion may not win the Noble Peace Prize. Serving others may mean that you are not the one receiving the recognition. But they are what adds to a person's character...

To quote one of the young ladies, "The best view comes after the hardest of times." YES IT DOES!

Be Prepared for an Emergency @ Work
SDG&E Outlines Measures to Take

A disaster, such as a fire or earthquake, can disrupt your business without warning - sometimes at great cost. Being prepared can help you restore operations faster and limit your losses. Good planning and preparation can teach employees how to respond, help protect operations, and save lives should an emergency occur.  Here are five ways to stay safe in your workplace:
  • Know the location of the nearest exits, evacuation routes, automated external defibrillator (AED) and fire extinguishers.
  • Know your building security and floor leaders.
  • Participate in emergency exercises, drills and training programs.
  • Advise your supervisor of potential hazards so these can be corrected.
  • Eliminate potential fire hazards by keeping offices and cubicles free from paper clutter; recycle all unnecessary paper.
To learn more, watch this video on emergency preparedness for the workplace.
