"The event itself was a perfect compromise of family fun and respect to the cause. The feeling of community and solidarity was felt by all who attended, to race, walk, or cheer. I greatly enjoyed the entire day, and will be racing again next year!" - 5K Participant

After Suicide: Understanding Your Grief
The suicide of a loved one can have a profound and sometimes devastating impact on the family, friends, and communities left behind.
Bereavement after suicide may entail high levels of disorientation, guilt, regret, anger, and trauma.
All of this makes surviving the suicide of a loved one a potentially life-changing ordeal that requires all of the resilience that a survivor can muster, and all the support and understanding that family and community can provide.
If you've lost someone to suicide, we invite you to our presentation, After Suicide: Understanding Your Grief, in Walpole on 10/22 or Arlington on 11/28.

Boston Public Health Commission Workshop
In September, the Community Education and Outreach team visited the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) to deliver a suicide prevention workshop. T
he Samaritans team instructed 40 professionals working in Boston-based youth programs (such as
school-based health centers, youth development network, and the peer leadership institute), violence prevention, and the Healthy Baby/Healthy Child program for new mothers.
We are delighted to announce we been invited back to host another workshop with BPHC in November. If you're interested in bringing a workshop to your office, school, or community organization, please complete the Community Education and Outreach Request Form.

Volunteers from Boston College's PULSE Program
We can all play a role in the effort to prevent suicide. For this group of volunteers from Boston College's PULSE Program for Service Learning, that means answering calls, texts, and chats from people in despair.
The mission of the PULSE Program is to educate students about social injustice by putting them into direct contact with marginalized populations and social change organizations. We are so grateful to have worked with PULSE students for more than 20 years, and welcome this group to the crisis center to begin their shifts. Interested in becoming a volunteer with Samaritans?
