A Note from your Principal
Dear Cheetah Families,

We are almost to 2019! I hope you are all ready for a wonderful winter break starting Saturday, Dec. 22 and going until Jan. 7. We look forward to seeing our cheetahs back in class on TUESDAY, JANUARY 8.

If you have not yet had an opportunity to give input to our school and the school district about what you think our spending priorities should be in order to best serve our students and help them to grow and to achieve, please participate in the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Program) survey. Parent voices are appreciated and we try to address parent priorities whenever possible. LCAP Parent Input

Champions-in-the-Making
These two sisters brought in 100 cans of food to help support our VLMA student council food drive. Way to go, Cheetahs! #Lifelonglearners and givers.
Daphne's journal--filled with pages like this. Writing and art. A creative journey.
A Cheetah Champion-in-the-Making is a student who has shown a leap of growth! We celebrate our Champions-in-the-Making because every time we grow, we get closer to our goals and aspirations. Continuous growth and learning is something that we want for every cheetah.

 Champions in the Making:

Joseph Hernandez who is in the 8th Grade has been showing great progress in all areas. Ms. Ha especially wanted to recognize him for his hard work in science. I had the pleasure of looking through Joseph's science lab book and the combination of excellent note taking with striking illustrations certainly earned my admiration. Congratulations, Joseph--keep up the great work!

Daphne Chaidez is in fifth grade and showing great effort in all areas of study. She particularly stands out in terms of her work with school journal where she has combined her artistic flair with her written pieces and turned her journal into a visual and verbal treat. Here is a sample page.

Winter is coming! Enjoy the break!
The last day before break is December 21. Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 8th. Teachers return on the 7th for a day of professional development so that they can remain in top form when teaching your children. Stay warm and dry over the break, enjoy time with friends and family, and we will see you in January.

Returning January 8 and ID Check-in System for all adults!
Reminder that we have a fully closed campus starting January 8. All guests on campus will use the ID check in system in the office. Preschool and Head Start parents will need to use the ID system or their special badges to pick up and drop off their children at the assigned times.
Important Changes--Guest ID Card system
Starting in January we will have a guest check in system in the office. Only students and staff should come through gates to get onto campus. This system will require all campus visitors to run their ID cards through a scanner. This includes at arrival and dismissal times because we have students and staff on campus starting at 7:30 a.m. and lasting until 6:30 p.m. Preschool and Headstart parents will be given special ID cards that allow them to come onto campus solely to pick up and drop off children, for all other purposes they will need to use the ID card check in system.

We are a school that prides itself on being welcoming to our families. It is difficult to make this change, however, parent groups have all assured us that safety should come first. Thank you for helping us with this transition.

Here is a link to the letter that we sent home regarding the change:
