May 23, 2019
Greetings!

Last summer, we communicated dress code changes for the 2019-2020 school year. This is in an effort to simplify the CJ dress code while still allowing students to show their individuality. These changes are also being made in order to simplify (and to avoid confusion) about what is uniform-approved for students and families when ordering spirit wear items. The updated dress code guideline will also produce a recognizable, uniform appearance that clearly identifies students as belonging to the CJ community.

Please refer to this informational handout for information and pictures of the 2019-2020 school year dress code changes. Additional details will also be mailed home later this summer.

Details about when the CJ spirit shop — where you can purchase uniform tops, bottoms, and spirit wear — is open can be found under the parent section of this newsletter.

Promoting Peace in Dayton
As we shared earlier this month, the City of Dayton is preparing for an expected white supremacist rally that will take place downtown this Saturday, May 25. On that day — in an abundance of caution, Chaminade Julienne will be closed with no activities taking place on campus.
As part of who we are as a community and as a response to this particular event, we have actively been working to provide opportunities for our students and school community to promote peace ahead of the expected rally. On Tuesday, May 21, homeroom meetings were held with a member of Dayton’s Human Relations Council. Topics discussed included first amendment rights and what the HRC has done to help promote community response and create a peaceful and safe environment.
This Friday, May 24, all are invited to a Mass for peace and justice (7:20 a.m., CJ chapel). During the school day, students will have the opportunity to wear peace ribbons, attend a prayer service during homeroom, and unite with classmates for a special 3 o’clock prayer for unity.

MINISTRY & SERVICE
Service Tracking Online Program
Beginning This Summer
With the start of the summer, we will begin tracking all of our students' service hours (both required and over and above hours) via an online program called Helper Helper ( helperhelper.com ). Information about this program was explained to all students in religion classes this week and all students had the opportunity to sign into the program. Students have the option to enter hours for each of their service opportunities by using either their chromebooks/computers or via an app on their smartphones. Students will no longer have to use paper time sheets and get signatures to verify their hours. We are excited about this new program and are hopeful that tracking service hours will become more efficient and less cumbersome for all; our students, the service organizations, and the Ministry & Service office. If questions arise as students begin using this program, they are encouraged to email the Ministry & Service office and we will address them together.
