Summer Church Office Hours
Monday - Thursday
11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Notes from Pastor AJ

Dear Beluvs ...

Condolences to Rev. Kelly Dignan and all of the family of Diana Groves (Kelly’s mother). Join Diana's family in a celebration of her life on Saturday, August 22 at 11:00 am. The Celebration of Life can be viewed here.

We have been working hard on a new service format for Sunday morning Worship beginning September. Soul Matters is the new theme based monthly program that we will be using and we are very excited about the depth and the all church focus that it will bring to PrairieUU. We will also be incorporating more music and a celebratory welcoming feel to the service.

Please remember that I continue to be available for pastoral care, conversations, and connections. I am available to chat, catch up etc. Please continue to schedule appointments, and calls with me. You can schedule a time via my Google Calendar or call/text me at 720-549-0531.

In Service,

From the Committee on Shared Ministry …

The CoSM team has been busy with the work of keeping our community in right relations. We also have the task of preparing for Pastor AJ’s yearly evaluation and upcoming contract extension. The extension is needed because Covid-19 prevented Pastor AJ from completing his chaplaincy requirements for Ordination.

We have accepted an invitation to the Justice League’s retreat on August 22nd. In addition, we will continue working with the Justice League and the Board during the next Widening the Circle meeting on September 1st.

We would love to read about what our other Prairie committees are doing, as so many in our Congregation are engaged in exciting new developments for our community. How about sharing your news?
In Faith,

From the Board ...

Greetings!

The Board Meeting is tonight at 7:00 pm. Join us if you have ideas or concerns to share between 7:15 pm and 7:30 pm. The minutes from our June meeting are available here.

Insights from a new Board President are:
  • First, we need written job descriptions and committee roles and responsibilities so that all can access them on Breeze shared documents and in handbooks. The Board will be working on 3 hand books to improve clarity in understanding how our community works.
  • A second insight is that we need to increase the news about all the many activities and work that is going on by our committees, staff and Minister.
  • A third insight is that we need to let all know when we recognize staff for excellence. Paul and Renee were recently recognized for their extra efforts. Paul for his assistance with making our Sunday worship technology work and Renee for leading the effort to get a covid-19 loan (grant) to support our budget.

Please join the COSM, Board and members of the Justice League for continuing discussions about recommendations for Prairie UU based on the UUA Widening the Circle of Concern document. We will meet the 1st Tuesday of the month, next on September 1, 2020.

In Covenant,

Vivian LittlefieldPresident
Lifespan Education

Calling EVERYONE!

This year, as part of our effort to provide integrated, multigenerational religious education at Prairie, we are excited to call for volunteers for these opportunities:

  • Focusing on Our Youth: This is an opportunity to bring your own experiences and interest to the specifically child-focused segment of Sunday worship, in keeping with our monthly Soul Matters themes. Participate on your own, a partner, or create a video with the whole family!

  • Children's RE facilitators: In addition to the opportunity to build meaningful connection with our elementary-aged kids, being an RE teacher will give you the chance to explore our monthly themes in creative, hands-on ways that adults and children alike can experience for the whole week.

Never taught RE before? No problem! Soul Matters provides a comprehensive, easy-to-follow curriculum with engaging activities, media, and instructions for adult leaders, and your RE team stands ready to provide you with the materials, information, and support you'll need to create an inviting and interactive virtual space for our children and their families. An orientation session to the curriculum will be provided.

Worried about the technology? Don't be! Tech tutoring and support are available, and basic technological tips and tricks will also be covered in volunteer orientation. We're here to support you in connecting with your community.

Please contact Jen r text/call 720-775-9863 to volunteer!

ACTION NEEDED - Bringing PrairieUU Home
Contact: Rhonda W

Beginning September, we will not be able to publish all song lyrics for the streaming worship services.

If you would like a hymnal (gray, teal or both) so that you can easily sing along at home during the Sunday morning services, send a message to Rhonda W. We will arrange to "check out" the hymnals to you.

We will be using ‘Soul Matters’, a lifespan curriculum for the 2020-2021 year. As such, it is very important that we maintain best practices for copyright purposes.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Early Service Sunday - Get Ready!
Sunday, August 23, 7:30 am
Contact: Kim M.

Please join us in yet another variation of Service Sunday! Prior to our worship service, we will beat the heat and support our community, as our social justice vision states, to challenge the intersectional conditions that create and sustain oppression, inequality, and injustice at both the institutional and individual levels – in the world, our communities, our own backyards, and our hearts.

This Sunday, we'll be cleaning up our backyard/ Open Space, blessing the backpacks of our children and youth as they return to school, supporting our friends at Ready to Work/Bridge House as they fulfill their dream of moving into a home, and addressing the needs of those needing food with our partners at the Parker Task Force. There are many ways to support our economic and environmental justice work and we hope you will join us.

7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Open Space Clean Up- take action for environmental justice! Let’s clean our space together – alone! With a family member or two, visit the space Prairie has committed to cleaning and pick up some trash. Where’s our Open Space? Baldwin Gulch, trailhead at Twenty Mile Road and Ponderosa Drive. Best to wear long pants, closed shoes, bring trash bags and gloves. Masks and social distancing required.
8:30 a.m. Drive-Thru Blessing of the Backpacks/Laptops – someone in your home getting ready for school? Whether you're returning in person or attending virtually from home, for this unprecedented year we want all to know that we are holding our children and youth in our hearts. Drive by the open space clean up parking lot (see map above) to have Melissa bless your pack or device from a safe distance!
If you cannot make the Drive-Thru Blessing of Backpacks/Laptops, please be sure to bring your backpack/device to the service!
8:30 a.m. – 9:00 Bridge House Welcome Basket and Parker Task Force

  • Drop Off Bridge House Welcome Basket: three trainees are graduating soon from Bridge House and will be transitioning to new homes. YEAH!! They’re in need of some basics and PrairieUU is here to help. Please click here to sign up to bring supplies, dropping off at our open space clean up parking lot (see map below). You can always contribute cash and Melissa and Kim will shop for anything that’s still needed and/or we can stop by to collect your items.

  • Parker Task Force: If you can contribute any items needed by the Parker Task Force, please drop off during this time as well. Click here to see their current needs.
