I apologise in advance for the length of this month's edition, but there so many great things happening that I need to share these successes with you.
70th Anniversary Booklet
I trust that you have already seen the image above?
Through the combined efforts of Peter Maishman and Judy Johnston, with the financial backing of the Queenscliff / Point Lonsdale Community Enterprise and the generous production assistance of Fuji Xerox (thanks Brett Maishman), we have a first class summary of our first 70 years of vigilance and service. These are on sale via the Office for just $5 ea with a postage option of $10 ea,
We should celebrate and be proud that this now brings to a total of 3 separate well produced written records of our history - a great achievement for a volunteer Surf Life Saving Club. (In the future the 'video' from the 70th anniversary will be available too. Judy has been unwell and we send our best wishes and understand that once you are up to it, this will be available too).
Aquatic Sports
Last week I met with Gus Birell who has taken over the Aquatic Sports portfolio. Gus brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the role and has well and truly hit the ground running. Thanks for those that are providing support and ideas and it is sure to be an ever bigger year than last in this area.
Training & Assessment and Life Saving Services
Justine, Charlie and their respective teams have been hard at work in recent weeks preparing for the Cadet and Bronze Camps and for the start of the Patrol Season.
We're in a really good place with notifications for Camps released, Gear Inspection complete and the Patrol Roster being issued.
Great work everyone!
New Clubhouse project
Our Building Committee of Chris Harper (Chair), Bec McHenry, Andrew Pitney, Liam Petrie-Allbutt and Matt Vaughan have been working feverishly as the design detail phase wraps up.
Members of the Executive will join with the Building Committee and Architects next week for the final sign off.
I am increasingly confident that we will be in a position to call for tenders from Builders and commence works in early 2019 (as planned).
An enormous effort, thousands of hours, years of commitment and generous donations have got us to this point and that light at the end of the tunnel is large and getting closer each day!
Finally, it's not too late to donate! Remember that membership fees have been frozen for the last 3 seasons, so please make your one off tax deductible and do your bit - http://www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au/the-club/new-clubhouse/
Back Beach Base Working Group
For more than 18 months, the working group of Chris Harper (Chair), Andrew MacLeod, Myself and Matt Vaughan have been working on 'the other building project'.
I will be issuing a separate more detailed briefing, but in summary the preliminary design has been approved, agreement between the Club and the Boardriders Club regarding shared use has occurred and both (Bellarine candidates) Lisa Neville - ALP and Brian McKiterick - Liberal, have indicated their willingness for financial backing for the necessary works.
Pop Up Return
At last night's Executive Committee meeting we accepted a proposal from last year's operator to return again this peak summer season.
More information will be supplied in mid to late November, but it will be similar to last year but the major difference being a range of themed foods during the Pop Up, to give your taste buds a working out! (Thanks Bec for you ongoing effort with this project).
