Rector's Reflections
Your Kingdom Come on Earth
Luke sets the preaching of John the Baptist clearly in the midst of the political and religious environment of his day. We are told the names of the emperor, governor, and other political rulers of the day. They are the ones who are supposed to care for the welfare of the citizens of their territories. Although John gave his message while he was in the wilderness, it was intended to have its impact in the farms, villages, and cities where the ordinary and the powerful live out their daily lives. John is not satisfied with the way things are, and his words help prepare us for the coming of one who will turn the world upside down. John's words tell us to examine our own lives and the world around us. We should not be complacent in the face of injustice, but instead seek forgiveness and strive for lives that bear fruit according to God's vision for the world.

We all have the potential to "over-spiritualize" the Bible and our faith, so that they become disconnected from the real needs of the world around us. This potential can be even greater in the days around Christmas, as we may seek to justify over-spending on gifts, excessive eating and drinking, or simply desire to escape from the difficulties of ordinary life for a time. John provides a warning about ignoring the truth about our sinfulness and the brokenness in the world. But John also repeats the promise that God ultimately will not settle for the way things are in the world, and that God's salvation will be made known in the one who is to come: Jesus. Congratulations Lorraine and Diane!!
Congratulations to Lorraine Crocker recipient of the Maurice Herbert Award for her 16 years of steady volunteering at Lakes Region Humane Society.
Lorraine's daughter, Diane Mullen, was also honored with the Jake Award (for businesses that go above and beyond in their assistance to LRHS).
Generous Gift from Polly Finch
All Saints, Wolfeboro received a generous legacy gift from the estate of a beloved former parishioner Polly Finch. Daughter Katie Finch Cossman let us know that Polly wished the gift be made in memory of her husband Lucien Terry Finch, and sons Christopher Miller Finch, Richard Grant Finch, and James Kevin Finch. The vestry received the gift for our capital fund to improve the lives of others who worship and are served by the ministries and facilities of All Saints. We extend a huge thank you to Polly and her family; their generous legacy will assist us as we live out God's mission of loving and serving our neighbor in this corner of creation.

 Help Our Hungry Neighbors
HOLIDAY FOOD BASKET DRIVE
Once again, the Rotary Club of Wolfeboro is sponsoring the Holiday Food Basket fundraiser from  Tuesday, December 4  through Saturday December 8.   It is to benefit the L.I.F.E. Ministries Food Pantry (lifeministriesfoodpantry.org). Our goal is to raise $68,000 from donations, but given the community's donations in the past, we hope to exceed this amount. Please drop non-perishable food items and cash donations at Spencer-Hughes Real Estate Office, 22 S. Main Street, Wolfeboro and listen in to WASR 1420 AM or 97.1 FM Radio between 9 AM to 1 PM each day for updates on the drive!  Monetary donations are greatly appreciated to purchase food at 18 cents per pound at the NH Food Bank in Manchester.  You can send your donations in the enclosed envelope in the bulletin.
The Holiday Basket is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the L.I.F.E Ministries food pantry. The food pantry currently has qualified 767 families for a total of 2002 people. In 2018 we have two additional programs that are helping people in need. The first one is feeding children during vacations who receive free breakfast and lunch at school. The second program is feeding the homeless families at Hope House (Families in Transition). Every dollar that you donate to the Food Pantry buys 2 meals for a person in need. We are blessed to have very low overhead costs, this ensures that the money donated does in fact go to the purchase of food. Thank you for helping to support our neighbors!

WASR, Rotary Volunteers, and L.I.F.E. Ministries personalities are broadcasting live on-air each day to receive your donations. Listen for lively and fun conversations and interviews with local personalities as we seek to help those in need. - See more at: Pantry

Wolfeboro Reads
 Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:30

Wolfeboro Reads for December & January

Passages from the prophet Isaiah are among the most familiar and beloved in Christian  literature as they are central to our worship during the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent  and Easter. But how much do we know about either the author or the perilous times through which he lived and wrote bring "light to a people living in darkness"?

The Rev's Gina Finocchiaro and Ted Rice will be co-facilitators (Pastor Bill will be a participant). To get a copy of the Kerygma Resource Book: Isaiah; Part I, Holy, Holy, Holy by Boyd Lien, a Presbyterian minister, artist and historian. Call/e-mail FCCW's church office  (kristafccw@gmail.com or 603-569-1555 x101). Study guides are $26.
