Shred-It Fundraiser!
Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Queen Mary School, 230 Keith Road West.

Our shredding fundraiser is back! Securely shred confidential files and information, protect against identity theft, and help raise money for the library! 
Shredding will be by donation. Proceeds will support the library's projects and services. Donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt. The event will take place in parking lot at the corner of West 13th and West 8th.
 
October Computer Classes
All classes 7 - 8:30 p.m.

This month's classes include intro classes on Audacity, the Mac, the iPad, and Windows. Drop-in
 
Doll Raffle  
Tickets Available October 1 - December 8

Win a doll, her wardrobe, and cradle for that special someone! (Value of prize is $400). Tickets $2 each, $5 for 3, or $20 for 15 chances to win. Draw date is December 8. Money raised will be used for Daisy Readers for the visually impaired.

Dare to Be Heard
Monday, October 1, 6:30 - 8:45 p.m.

If you're a writer and want to read your work to a non-critical audience, why not join us? Dare welcomes writers at all stages of the journey, and interested listeners too. This is a North Shore Writers' Association event and takes place in the second floor boardroom. Drop-in

Postures and Prompts

Andrea Winterbottom, a certified Hatha yoga teacher and Federation of BC Writers member, will lead you through a series of pranayama (breathing exercises) and asanas (yoga postures) to open pathways to allow creativity to flow. Please bring your own yoga mat, pen and paper. Registration required

Build a Bristlebot
Friday October 19
K-3 at 10 - 11:30 a.m. and Grade 4 - 7 at 1 p.m.

What's a BristleBot you ask? A BristleBot is a tiny, simple robot made out of common household items. This program is your chance to build your own, and put them through an obstacle course. Registration required and a parent or guardian is required to attend with K-3 children

Teen Poetry Contest!
Deadline: October 15, 5 p.m.

The first ever NVCL Teen Poetry Contest is open! Your original poem can be in any form or genre, and should be 32 lines or less. Submit your poem to NVCLTeenPoetryContest2018@gmail.com. Shortlisted and winning submissions will be celebrated at our Youth Poetry Slam and Awards Ceremony on November 9!

Teen and Tween volunteering

The Library offers several volunteering opportunities for teens and tweens. Join our Teen Advisory Council, Tween Advisory Group, or the Teen Art and Promotion Group. Join the Read Along program, or help with library events! 

Teen Gaming
Fridays, October 5, 12, 19, and 26 3:30 - 5:45 p.m.

For grades 7 and up. Drop into The Room to play your favourite "E" or "T" rated games for Wii or PS4, or play board games. Bring your own, or use ours.  On October 12 we'll have special Teen Gaming Tourney: ZombsRoyale! There'll be another tourney in December. See the calendar for info! Drop-in

Snack and Chat Day

For grade 7 - 12. What?! There's free food in the Library?! Come to the room to study, socialize, play some board games and share some awesome treats with your friends! 2nd Wednesday of the month.
