April 2018

He has risen ...

"This is the day which the Lord hath made,
let us be glad and rejoice."
                                                                                                            Psalm 118:24

Peace and Greetings,

April has arrived but only on the calendar does it feel like spring! As you know,  March's snowfalls played havoc with our school calendar. Hopefully the weather warms up in time for spring vacation the week of April 16 - 20. Graduation remains on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Hartford. For everyone else, the end of the school year has been moved to Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Final exams, with noon dismissals, are scheduled for June 14, 15, 18 and 19.

Tickets are selling quickly for this weekend's spring musical, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Show times are Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at 7:00 pm and a Sunday, April 8 matinee at 2:00 pm. You can purchase tickets on our website or at the door.

I'm pleased to share that St. Paul will be well represented along with other Catholic high school students in the Archdiocese at a special Mass, to pray for persecuted Christians in the Middle East, on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary's Church, 5 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven. Archbishop Blair will be the principal celebrant and Bishop Bawai Soro, of the Chaldean Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto, will concelebrate and deliver the homily. St. Paul is praying for and financially supporting the reconstruction efforts of our adopted "Sister City" of Ankawa, Iraq. There will be a student bus, however, all are welcome to join us in New Haven.

Save the date for a relevant parent presentation in today's society, "Parent/Guardian Forum on Vaping and Juuling: What You Need to Know and Helpful Ways to Talk to Your Kids" presented by the McCall Center for Behavioral Health on Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 pm in the St. Paul auditorium. If time permits, they will also address the widely publicized issue of opioid abuse. This event is being sponsored by St. Paul in collaboration with St. Joseph School, Bristol and St. Matthew School, Forestville.

In spite of the weather, lots going on around here. Congrats and thanks to everyone for making St. Paul such a vibrant community.

May the risen Lord continue to bless your family and our St. Paul community!

In the Spirit of St. Paul,

As we mentioned in the Easter message sent last week, Catholic high schools throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford have been asked to participate in a project to aid persecuted Christians in the Middle East. Each school was assigned a Sister City for whom to pray and aid in their reconstruction efforts. St. Paul has adopted the city of Ankawa, Iraq.

Below you will find an invitation from Archbishop Blair to attend a special Mass for persecuted Christians on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00p.m.

St. Paul students may earn four service hours (either category) by representing St. Paul in uniform at the Mass. Permission forms are available from students' religion teachers to ride a bus from St. Paul, departing at 12:40pm and returning at 4:15pm, and should be returned on Monday, April 9. Families are welcome, and students may also find other transportation to the Mass.
