Minister's Moment
For centuries the consciousness of The Camino was one of devotion and healing for the pilgrims making their way to Santiago de Compostela seeking a blessing from St. James the patron saint of Spain. Today between 250,000 and 300,000 pilgrims walk on the Camino each year, up to ½ of them over the summer months. Every thought and every feeling create the current that moves the pilgrim along. In some ways The Camino is a microcosm of life as it could be if we were able to treat each other with respect regardless of our differences, and we honored each other’s path to the Divine. That is what I experienced in my time with other pilgrims on this amazing journey. There was kindness, compassion, and loving moments of service to others. There was also tolerance, caring, passion, courage, joy, peace, and freedom from the expectation of others.
I slept 15 nights in dormitories with anywhere from 6-30 bunk beds. The people I walked with, ate with, shared a dormitory with were from, South Africa, Italy, France, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Russia, Sweden, Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, Barbados, Canada, Australia, Tasmania(Australia), Korea, Japan, China, Brazil, Portugal, The Netherlands, Poland and the United States. There was only kindness and acceptance between everyone.
Come and join me this Sunday as I speak about my experience as part of the collective consciousness of the Camino de Santiago; The Way of St James. There are many lessons from this experience, and I look forward to sharing my Journey.
