ACE Toronto at Toronto Tennis City offered recreational and competitive training oppor- tunities for all ages and levels on red clay courts. Recreational players had the opportunity to join half day or full day progressive camps. Competitive players benefitted from our high performance environment which included fitness and an emphasis on preparing players for tournament play. - AN ONGOING SUCCESS STORY 

At ACE we have been fortunate to meet so many kids who fulfill the Ace motto of "Discipline, Pride and Courage" -  Vita Tabunshchyk, who recently won the OTA U18 Provincials is one of those players. We have seen her growing up from a 9 year old who could do 1000 sit ups, who won national championships, who represented Canada in international competition, but who knew that education was the answer to her future. Vita has been accepted on a tennis scholarship to the reputable private research university MIT starting this fall.

Vicky Mboko was invited by Tennis Canda to participate in the U12 TENNIS EUROPE COMPETITION held yearly in Auray, France. Vicky took the Doubles Championship title along with her partner Scarlett Nicholson.

Katherine Adamec

Nicholas Adamec and his brother Alex who live in St.Augustine, Florida came to train with ACE for the month of March. Both boys and their mother Katherine brought a great deal of energy to the academy, which really impacted the coaches and players in a positive way. 

The U10 OTA Championships is a special tournament because it is funded by a private donor who gives away $20,000 prize money split between the Boys/Girls Champions and Finalists. Because of this, the tournament draws many U10 players from all over the province and this year had 90 competitors. The OTA did a fantastic job organizing the event as they had roaming umpires, fruit/snacks and pizza provided for all the players, parents, and coaches who attended.

 

ACE Burlington players who participated: Maria Youssef, Clara Tiong, Gracie Sun, Anna Tabunshchyk, Mazhar Atassi, Mikail Iqbal, Mohammad Ali, and Eiji Fujita. Players from ACE Toronto were Melina Christopoulous, Ruzgar Iscen, Cadence Benchtrit, Luke Basiji and Cooper Arroyave.

All the players represented ACE extremely well with great behaviour, great competitive spirit, and a good attitude. These are the values that ACE demands players show while competing, and the coaching staff who watched them was very pleased to see how great they were in this respect. The competition for ACE players was highlighted by three individuals:  Maria Youssef was the girls finalist in flight C, Mohammad Ali was the boys finalist in flight B, and Eiji Fujita was the finalist of the championship flight which won him $4000 towards private training. Eiji's performance was especially impressive because on the final day before the semi-finals, he had come down with a fever and wasn't sure if he would be able to play. He not only played, but went on to beat the #1 seed. Unfortunately, he was out of gas in the final. It was a very gutsy performance on Eiji's part and he showed a lot of heart to go out and compete under those conditions.

" An athletes body faces different demands than the average patient. Sports injuries are unique and the rehab that follows these injuries needs to be uniquely tailored as well. We will be conducting movement screening of ACE high performance athletes in order for us to gather baseline data on how the players move. In the unfortunate event that a player is injured, we will then already have knowledge of their specific mechanics and can use that to help direct treatment more efficiently. We will also use the screen as an opportunity to note errant movement patterns, muscle compensation and general movement capacity to make possible training/fitness recommendations to the coaches."

Sana Rizwan Farid holds an M.A. with a focus on Conflict Transformation from the University of Notre Dame (USA) and has extensive experience mentoring and providing conflict transformation training to youth.

ACE TENNIS BURLINGTON operates out of Cedar Springs Health, Racquet and Sportsclub. The Cedar Springs Club boasts state of the art fitness facilities that compliment its 11 indoor tennis courts. ACE has been a Gold Designated Tennis Development Center 17 years in a row. The TDC "Go for Gold" Program is a "support program" designed by Tennis Canada to work with junior competitive development programs across Canada. The TDC program is a key component of the overall player development plan of Tennis Canada and its mission of developing world class players. The TDC program designates indoor clubs/academy's meeting minimum program requirements with a gold, silver, bronze or basic designation.
