This is only a four-day week for the students as there is no school on Friday, December 21. (Friday is still a teacher workday as they compile student grades for the second nine-week quarter.) All OCPS campuses will be closed from December 24 to January 4 for the Winter Break.
In this issue we celebrate several student success stories from the first half of December. I think you will enjoy seeing the variety of activities our Bears have been engaged in - both inside and outside of the classroom.
AAA forecasts that more than one-third of Americans will travel this holiday season. The record-breaking 112.5 million travelers taking to the nation's runways, roads and rails for the year-end holidays represents a 4.4 percent increase over last year and the most since AAA has been tracking holiday travel. Therefore, I remind all members of our Cypress Creek community to please buckle up and drive safely over the Winter Break.
Wishing you and your family Happy Holidays!

Wrestling Tournament Recaps (Orange City and Kissimmee)
Both our men's and women's wrestling teams recently competed in two tournaments in different cities. Our women's team was up in Orange City competing in
The Clash. The girls, wrestling very shorthanded, still represented us well. Sophomore
Stephany Dean won the tournament at 138 pounds, junior
Akemi Garcia finished 2nd, senior
Dani Witham finished in 4th, and rounding out our line-up were senior
Isis Bravo and junior
Jazlee Ramos who wrestled well, but did not place
The men's team was at Osceola High School for the
Danny Byron Invitational featuring 24 teams; many from out of state. Although we had 7 first-year wrestlers in the starting line up, the team wrestled well and finished in 12th place. The team was led by Pool champions
Jahn Williams and
Rey Graciano, as well as
Kash Barnes in 2nd place, and
Hunter Stief and
Christian Garcia in 3rd place.

Quiz Bowl Team Closes Out 2018 Season
|
Cypress Creek's Quiz Bowl team wrapped up the 2018 season at Olympia High School during playoff competition. Our MVP for the match was a five-way tie to everyone who attended (below). We had a young team this year and even making the playoffs was a long shot. We battled hard and hopefully these battle scars will help us have some positive momentum to build on for next year!
The following players participated in our playoff match at Olympia High School:
- Nicholas Nguyen - team captain
- Ajay Narain
- Conor O'Malley
- Phuong Ton
- Landon Nayab
Here we are with our HUGE seventh place trophy! President Reagan is on the screen behind the team as there were tough questions regarding his foreign policy decisions from the 1980s.
