Catholic School Update
November 9, 2018
The Christian life is a journey toward home. It's a daily struggle to choose love over selfishness. Each day as a teacher/principal you face hundreds of small encounters where you are invited to grow, to love, to serve.
It may not always feel that way, but each moment of your vocation has a deep spiritual significance.
~Jonathan Doyle ~ Going Deeper Daily Motivation 11/1/18

In your day today, where were you invited to grow, love and serve?

Teaching WI History or about our State—
Jo Wilder and the Capitol Case
Immerse your students in critical thinking and historical inquiry with Jo Wilder and the Capitol Case , a digital interactive game set in and around the Wisconsin State Capitol. Students will hunt for clues, corroborate evidence and piece together logical arguments to solve mysteries from Wisconsin history. The game was designed to meet Wisconsin's 3rd-5th grade social studies and English language arts standards, with help from teachers and students across the state.

Teachers and students around the state are already loving Jo. Read their feedback:
  • "Jo Wilder and the Capitol Case brought our existing fourth grade curriculum full circle. From inquiry to application to recognition and recall, the students really leveled up for this challenge."
  • Mike Scoville, K-12 Media Specialist, Gibraltar School District
  • “[Jo Wilder and the Capitol Case] brought learning to us concretely … and forever changed how this teacher views learning about and teaching history!”
  • Nikki Lutzke, 4th Grade Teacher and K-12 Tech Integrator, Parkview School District
  • "I introduced Jo Wilder to my students. They are begging me to play. Two went home and played there. One had done it twice already. They love it."
  • Debra Burmeister, 4th Grade Teacher, Neenah Joint School District

Countdown to November 25th Deadline
Kohl Online Application Tips
Koh's Foundation
By November 25, the Kohl Award applications must be completed online using the Foundation’s new application portal.

Nominated teachers and principals receive login credentials once their nomination has been received. Student applicants must create an account found here .

Paper applications are not available and will not be accepted.

The application is a two-stage submission process. In the first stage, applicants complete the general information fields and questions located in the tabs of the online application. This stage also includes a tab for submitting email addresses of the people from whom the applicant is requesting the three required letters of recommendation.

The second stage of the application is the submission of the letters of recommendation by the authors of those letters, not the applicant. This stage can only happen if the application is submitted in the first stage. The email addresses that were listed on the application are used to automatically notify the people that they have been asked to author a letter of recommendation. The notification includes a link to login to the online portal. Letters must be typed in the online portal and authors should follow the guidelines and directives noted very carefully before submitting the letter. The portal does not allow file uploading.

Applicants are not able to see the letters of recommendation but are notified as each letter is submitted. Once all three letters are submitted, the application is considered complete and is sent to the appropriate jurisdiction for review and scoring.

The application is due on November 25 at 11:59:59 pm. Any application not received by that time or that does not have all three letters of recommendation will not be considered.
If you do not know your jurisdiction, you can find it by going here and using the WCRIS Members map to find your school and jurisdiction.

Remember to use the name listed on the DPI’s Private School Directory when looking up a school in the online application. If you cannot find your school name, you may have to add it manually to the school field.
