Opportunity Knocks this month! From federal Opportunity Zones, to efforts to boost Frederick County's cyber security industry, a new chapter of StartUp Grind in Frederick, and to new Future Minority Business Leaders graduating who are ready to do big things, there is opportunity everywhere.

October brings Manufacturing Month nationwide and I can't think of a better way to celebrate it locally than with recognizing three recent award-winning manufacturers recently named Champions of Maryland Manufacturing by RMI. Our department's own manufacturing business developer Jodie Bollinger was also selected as an Emerging Leader Winner in Manufacturing. Congratulations to them all!

It's also National Cyber Security Awareness Month and our local cyber industry has been building momentum. Check out the article below to learn more about what our companies and partners are doing to keep our information systems safe.

But, perhaps my favorite reason to celebrate October is because it's Business Appreciation Week and Economic Development Week for the state of Maryland. Our staff is out of the office this week visiting over 100 businesses to thank them for all they do. I want to take this opportunity to also thank you and your business for helping to make Frederick County's economy strong.

Opportunity Zone Website Launched

Frederick County, in collaboration with the City of Frederick and City of Brunswick, has launched a Frederick County Opportunity Zone website to help connect investors with existing local ventures eligible for the federal Opportunity Zone incentive program.
Frederick County Graduates 17 Future Minority Business Leaders
The program was established in 2017 by OED as way to help grow minority business leaders through resources, networking and business education that inspires future leaders.

Business Appreciation Week (BAW) 2018 in Full Swing
Between October 15-19, 60+ ambassadors will be visiting over 100 businesses to thank them for all they do. 

StartUp Grind is Coming to Frederick
Startup Grind is the largest independent startup community, actively educating, inspiring, and connecting more than 1,500,000 entrepreneurs in 450 cities. They nurture startup ecosystems in 120 countries through events, media, and partnerships with organizations like Google for Entrepreneurs. 
GOEFER Launches Energy Saving Technology Pilot Program at ROOT
Early-stage technology company GOEFER has teamed up with ROOT's five partner organizations to conduct a pilot program of the company's proprietary energy technology, which analyzes energy usage and gives users greater control.
