Many students will say that this upcoming week is the best of the year because of the positive climate that will be on display for winter carnival. I would ask that you remind your child to be positive, respectful, and have fun. The schedule for the week is below.

Swim Team






Congrats to the swim team for a strong season. Laurel Gingrich and Lauren Sikoski qualified for the swimming and diving championships held at UNH last Saturday. Laurel placed 7th in the 50 free. Three additional swimmers competed in relays: Grace Shoemaker, Alexa Leonard and Cyndal VanSteensburg. Alexa, Lauren, and Grace placed 9th in the 400 relay.
Alpine Skiing Update
Congratulations to the girls alpine ski team for competing strong last Friday at states. They came up just short and took home the state runner-up banner. Bethany Tanner, Sydni Lehr, and Shealagh Brown all qualified for the Meet of Champions to be held on Thursday, February 28 at Cannon. Good luck girls!
February is Social-Emotional Learning Month

National Poetry Contest
Rachel Langlitz  was chosen as one of 65 semi-finalists from across the country in this year's  Lake Effect/ National High School Poetry Contest, sponsored by Penn State-Erie. Out of nearly 2,000 young poets, Rachel’s poem placed in the top 3% of all submissions. Congratulations Rachel!
2019 New Hampshire Scholastic Art Award

Gilford High School would like to recognize 18 talented artists whose work received recognition at the New Hampshire Scholastic Art Awards. Scholastics is a prestigious competition amongst high school artists and Gilford put on a show! Five gold keys! Those gold key art works have been chosen to compete for a spot at the national level. The work was exhibited at Pinkerton Academy from January 20th through February 10th. Well done artists at Gilford!! Field Hockey Honors
This week, the official National Field Hockey Coaches Academic American list was released. Players have to have at least a 3.5 GPA. Scholars with a GPA of over 3.9 are recognized as Scholars of Distinction. Gilford High School had 9 scholars with 7 earning distinction.
Taylor Hurst and Brianna Salanitro were scholars.
Nicole Berube, Randi Byars, Jenna DeLucca, Natalie Fraser, Laurel Gingrich, Syndi Lehr, and Kolbi Plante all distinction.
Just a reminder that AP exams must be paid for by Friday, February 22nd. Checks can be made out to Gilford High School. The cost per exam is $94.
