May 23, 2019
From the Executive Director

In just a few short days, over 130 young adults will begin their summer with Project Transformation North Texas (PTNT) and embark on a journey that will forever impact their lives. Our theme for summer 2019 is "Learning from Heroes." Typically we think of heroes as people who have accomplished extraordinary feats or have achieved celebrity status in our culture. While many of those people are certainly to be respected, the real heroes for me are our fellow citizens who show up every day to help improve their community and world. Our PTNT Corps Members are just these types of heroes. They could choose to do anything over the summer and they have chosen to join together as servant leaders to build intentional community with children and youth in underserved communities while beginning their own journeys toward discerning their life purpose. This is what makes Project Transformation so unique...it is both the lives of the young adults and the children and youth they serve that are significantly impacted. When you factor in preventing summer learning loss, improving reading levels and building social emotional health skills for kids, you begin to see what a robust return on investment our summer program yields. Through mutually beneficial relationships and principled mentorship, each of our young adults has the capacity to truly be a hero in the life of a child. So as the children and youth reflect on their heroes this summer, don't be surprised if many of them turn out to be our young adult members.

Warmly,

Lauren Richard
Executive Director

Welcome Summer 2019 PTNT Corps Members!

Our Summer Program will soon be underway! On May 25, this year's class of over 130 AmeriCorps Members will arrive at SMU for a week of training. Then, on June 5, our eight-week summer program will kick off at eleven church sites throughout North Texas. We could not be more thrilled about the team arriving this summer to serve over 1,100 children and youth in our community.

Our incoming PTNT Corps Members represent 55 different colleges and universities throughout the United States. Their hometowns are spread across 20 states. Our PTNT Corps Members often learn about Project Transformation North Texas from former members, on their college campuses, or at their home churches. This year, 14 of our PTNT Corps Members come from North Texas Conference churches.

Please keep them in your prayers as they travel from their hometowns and college campuses to North Texas in the coming days. If you are interested in sponsoring a PTNT Corps Member, please reach out to Kelsey Borgeson at [email protected]
